Non AR15 5.56

I'm trying to find a rifle that takes the AR15 mag and is not an AR15. Im trying to see if I can do this on a light budget right around $900 with a little give in either direction. Anybody have any suggestions?

Remington made a pump rifle that took AR mags. I think it was the model 7615. They might still make it, don't know for sure

You can buy an AR for a lot less than $900. Other than the Remington pump, which costs a lot more than an AR, there is the Mossberg bolt rifle. None others come to mind.

Is it that you think the AR-15 is too expensive? Or unreliable to you? Or do you wish to just have a rifle that uses STANAG magazines you already have?

I have a a few DI Ar 15 already. I love em. I was just looking to shake things up a bit. Im really trying to keep it around $900 because I'm putting in my order for a Springfield M1A match and its eating up alot of this years gun budget. Thanks for that list. Another reason I'm trying to make sure they take the Ar mags is that the state I am stationed in has a magazine limit. I would move if I could, but Army says I gotta stay.

As mentioned, there are many. But to me, some of the more interesting ones are the Rem 7615 pump, Robinson XCR, and the high-quality bullpups (FN FS2000, Tavor, and AUG).

Having said that, a DI AR15 is more interesting yet to me than ALL of them - the AR15 is popular for very very good reason - and worth the money. Right now there is a glut of AR15s in 5.56x45 due to the overbuying during Obama-1 and Obama-2 panics. It's a buyer's market. Dig deep, do your research, and get one of these fine rifles.

EDIT: Oops, ok - sorry - I see you said you have some AR15s.

What about the new rifle from Masterpiece Arms? It looks like an AR/SCAR mix. Its pretty interesting.

I think its called the MPA 15? Has anybody shot it yet? I like the piston system, and the side charging. Right in the budget too. Thanks guys. If anybody has one, let me know how you like it.

on that kindof budget, you're restricted to a mossberg MVP bolt action or a used Ruger mini14.

Humm, not an AR! All the Mossberg 5.56 MVP's use standard AR mags. My personal favorite is the MVP-Flex, but some of the other models are very sexy too if you are looking for a bolt gun.

I think I may have found a winner. There are some Sig 556 rifles that are going in my desired price range. Thanks everybody, I appreciate the insight.

Not sure about the others, but the AR-18/180 will not use AR-15/M16 magazines without alteration. A new magazine catch slot has to be cut, the "swell" on the AR-15 magazine has to be flattened, and the follower altered to operate the bolt holdopen.

Edited to add: The above applies to the original AR-18/180. The new AR-180B uses AR-15/M16 magazines without alteration.

KelTec has some new 5.56 guns on the way.

KelTec Guns to look for

Yeah, that M43 does sort have a German WW2 look about it

These two have differing model names but other than color and the folding sights, I don't see the difference. They seem to have overcome the bad-tigger-on-bullpups problem, according to a review of the preproduction version version that I read.
