What would Dirty Harry use today?

If Dirty Harry was a police officer today, what firearm would be his preferred weapon of choice?

Still a .44 S&W because "a man's got to know his limitations" :-)

No Noisy Cricket? Perhaps a PT22?

No? OK...
So, back when that film was released, the 629 looked impressive, but manageable. It was not a world apart from a .375 revolver in size and it was the barrel that caught the eye.

I think any of the revolvers in the poll, whilst in keeping with the "most powerful handgun in the world" theme, would be so big as to look ridiculous on screen.

In addition, back then revolvers were still fairly common amongst police, but now semis dominate.

So, I'd have to therefore go with the DE. Probably the .50, just because it is a .50....

Alas, Dirty Harry would be dead

He would have been issued a smart gun (because he is in California) and in a fist fight, broke his watch just moments before another bad guy pulls out an illegal M&P and ends it all.

Kind of a sad topic, who would play Dirty Harry?? Some things are better left alone. The 500 of course!

Dirty Harry retired and moved into a neighborhood in Detroit. In his older years he carried a M1911a1 and to keep people off his lawn, a M1 Garand.

one of the best "a man has to do what a man has to do" movie scenes ever, by the way, even more impressive than the famous "make my day"...

Well, no need to say more. See my signature...

Even in a reboot, he would use a .44 Mag S&W Model 29. Some things just shouldn't change.

I think DH would stay loyal to his brand Smith and Wesson but would definitely move up to the 500.

http://www.smith-wesson.com/webapp/w...layErrorView_Y

But wait!!!

DH is in CALIFORNIA, and he did toss over his beloved Model 29 for an oddball semi-auto when circumstances demanded it.

Therefore, I believe backing up his S&W500 would be a California-made, gas-operated, semi-auto, magazine-fed, single-action revolver like THIS ONE:

I choose the "other option" as he would still carry a blued 6 1/2" M-29.

Glock....

I think Inspector C would pack a Glock 41 .45acp with a Glock 30S .45acp as a BUG.
He'd use the .45acp magazines in either pistol in a emergency & be well armed.

Feeling lucky?...

Sorry- ya'll know somebody was going to say it sooner or later.

I took other option, "What would he use today?"

Glock 10mm! Mod. 20SF. Fit nice in a shoulder holster, no bluing problem, re rust. He could sweat all over it.

Dirty Harry seems like a modest guy. I peg him as a modern-day Glock 20 type.

A Barrett 82A1, 50 Cal hand gun with a 9 barrel and wood grips with iron sights.
At least he could once again say “This is the Barrett 50 the most powerful gun in the world!”
He could hold it around corners and shoot at bad guys and do it with a hot dog in his mouth.

Glock 10MM with two high capacity mags in his shoulder harness,

"Eyes just ain't what they used to be."

Short barreled Smith 500 at his left side, rearward facing hi rise belt holster with two speed loaders on the right side on his belt.

"For the scumbags hiding behind car doors, shooting at me."

"What you'd just ask me?"

"I can't hear a darn thing, I'm deaf as a post and my back hurts for some reason."

While we love Harry for his quotes and for being the maverick who doesn't follow the "rules" or accepted reason, and still gets the badguys in the end, Harry wasn't a "gun guy".

Now, perhaps he learned a thing or two over the years, but knowing Harry, it would only be the things he wanted to learn...

He carried the .44 mag S&W because it was the biggest, most powerful thing he could get. And sometimes the biggest, most powerful thing you can get is really not the best choice.

Harry's choice for a countersniper rifle in the original film was a .458 Win Mag. Scorpio actually escapes because of the recoil of the .458 keeping Harry from a fast second & third shot.

Today, unless there was some other plot twist added in, Harry would have probably put the Auto Mag back in the box, when he was able to replace it with another S&W .44 Mag. Not a real gun guy, but definitely a revolver guy, by choice. And I seriously doubt he would get one with a built in lock!

NO GLOCK, ever.

Even though Harry is "dirty" for not following the rules, I still can't see him failing to follow department policy in his use of a duty weapon. Liability of the department in that matter just can't be overlooked. I can see him using non-issued ammunition which would pack more of a wollop since ammo isn't visibly seen by his superiors.
