NEMO OMEN... Who has shot one?

On this board, circa 2007 or so, I asked why we hadn't seen an AR in 30-06 or another long action round. Mostly, everyone thought it was a lack of demand. It puzzled me, as Browning has marketed the BAR in long action cartridges to include magnums.

I've read some articles and watched a video on the OMEN. Has anyone here put hands on?

For those not familiar, how about an AR in 300 WM with a 22" or 26" barrel? GB is showing the lowest price around $3K.

AR in '06? Try this one:

They also have one on 300 mag, but it's a little spendy:

Sweet! I had seen the ULR, but had not heard of the "Bad News". I'll have to look it up on GB.

Anyone else on the Omen?

Interesting, but I don't see much demand for a 13 lb, $6000 rifle when you can buy 7 lb, $600 bolt rifles that do the same thing.

JMR, I agree, $6K is too rich for my blood, but there was an Omen on GB with a starting price around $3K... A little closer.

The OMEN is a great design. I've fired one and handled several others and I can tell you they're crazy accurate and can easily be fired from the shoulder rapid-fire if the need strikes you; thanks to the dual-buffer setup the recoil is about the same as a .308 AR.

But a bunch of them have had problems. I know several people who had repeated cases of punctured primers. The problem was ongoing and difficult to diagnose, but it was finally traced back to a batch of soft barrel extensions that was made for NEMO by a sub-contractor during the craziness. Unfortunately, they were randomly incorporated into the rest of the good barrel extensions they had, so NEMO has no way of knowing which OMENs will have problems.

Now that they know what the problem is, they're in the process of fixing the bad rifles. They're scheduling send-backs of any problem rifles, and they're fixing them fairly quickly. They also came out with a new version, the Watchman. So if you want a .300 Win Mag AR-style sniper rifle that can be fired like a .308 battle rifle, the OMEN and the Watchman are great rifles. Otherwise, a bolt-action will do just fine.
