My first deer rifle was a used $65 H&R Topper single shot 30-30 with a 4X Weaver. With careful shots but it worked just fine, to base data on a single incident is not the most accurate way to due things. The 30-30 is old, would you expect an old Dodge PU with a slant 6 to run the same as a new RAM with a V6? If not, that doesn't mean you should just junk the old truck does it?

Ever deer I have hit with my 30-30 was dead right there. The 30-30 is far from anemic. Shot placement with ANY rifle is not important than caliber.

So only your admited limited experiance with a 30-30 for deer is a valid point. All the others that have successfully hunted with one for years are nothing but hype........Makes sense...NOT!
