to me magnification is second really

I use different scopes for different situations, even if scopes are advertised as wellrounded they seldom are IMO (I tried that with a 2,5-12 scope and it sucked

for my bolt I have a 1-4 and a 4,5-14, so is there something in that 0,5 range I am missing? don't think so

I think people where/are fooled by big numbers and think that high magnification is the end all. ligth transfusion and clarity are more important. now if they made a 1-4 with the same light transfusion as my 4-14 I would probably never use the big one

For my semi I only have a reddot and haven't felt the use for a scope yet

I still like my 3-9x40 variable scopes for the majority of my hunting needs. The majority of shots I make are 300 yards and under. I like Leupold scopes however I own a couple of Mueller 4.5-14x40 AO scopes that are mounted on a 17HMR and a 17WSM. They perform very well with the rimfires out to their maximum ranges.

if you're good enough, you don't need a scope..

I wish more companies made a 3-9x40 with target turrets, turrets are useful no matter what magnification you like.

+1 to that. I have target turrets on my scope that I run on the .204, you can really reach out with that gun. Takes the guess work out of it.
