Mosin Nagant 800 Yards with Iron Sights

Hey guys went out the other day with the Mosin Nagant 91/30 doing some shooting 800 yards away at a steel torso target. Made a short video of the adventure. Hope you all enjoy!

Nice shootin' to say the least.
It's hard to even see the target that far with the naked eye.
Thanks for sharing.

Looked like a really nice Nagant. What was done to it for that kind of accuracy? I've thought about picking up a cheap one, don't think I'd ever be shooting at 800 yards.

If you're picky about what you want and are willing to pass on a bunch till you find one that meets your approval, there are good ones out there. Mine is a sub-MOA rifle with my loads. BUT, unlike Grizz's spectacular shooting with irons, I've got a 4x scope on mine.

Thanks guys! The mods I have done to help it get a little more accurate was bed the action and the front of the barrel near the front barrel band, did a little trigger work so it breaks clean at 2 lbs, and a tapered front sight post. Together these mods really helped out. previously before the bedding I used some electrical tape on the front of the barrel to use as bedding and that worked really well.

I just bought my first Nagant, a 1942. I plan on doing my best grizzdude impressions next week. Not that I could do anything similar to that kind of shooting. Great work

Great camera work (and great shooting, of course). What camera are you using?

Thanks guys!

Please update us on how your grizzdude impressions go!lol

The main camera is a panasonic hv-100, I find it works pretty good for what it cost me ($100). The target cam is some off brand that I got on ebay for $10 because the lcd screen is broken, works great for a target cam and I'm not out much if I shoot it on accident.

as mosins were a top sniper rifle i wouldn't put it past them to hit this or further.

as someone in a local mosin group, i tend to find that most inaccuracy comes from the shooters being fairly new, and their mosin is their first full power rifle. Also a bunch try to flinch or predict the guns recoil, which also leads to loss of accuracy. there are plenty of guys here on the forums, i know hit very good groups on theirs and i love seeing it. keep up the good work.

got any recommendations for a 800 target setup? im trying to range find a good setup, but my targets go up a hill, rather than down hill

Thanks Duzell, as for a target, if you can afford it I'd go with a 1/4" or 3/8" AR500 for 800 yards. Some times I lug this 80lb target up hills and creeks and it is no fun getting this thing to where I need it, most the time I can't just drive right up to it. I bet those AR500 targets will be less weight and still take the impacts without denting.

Great shooting.
Love that camera showing the air/light distortion on the bullets path.

Mosin Nagant 800 Yards with Iron Sights

Yeah, you can see how high it is arching up to get out that far. Very cool video!
