My first ever firearm, M1 carbine. Inherited it from my late hubby, and spontaneously decided to learn how to shoot and take care of it after finding it (surprise!) in the closet. So far, most guesses by SN make it an Inland built around '42. The stock has been "prettied up," erasing any cartouches that may have helped ID it further. Oh, well, that's OK, I didn't pay anything for it, and don't intend to sell it any time soon.

I am impatiently waiting for my first box of ammo.

Since I have invested very little in restoring it, I'll use it to get myself trained up, and then I'll see which way I want to go with the new-to-me sport.

An M16A1 made by GM Hydra-matic given to me by my Uncle Sugar to use for a
few years. Does that count?

Yugoslavian 59/66 SKS. When I was about 19, I got the itch for a semi-auto rifle and a local shop was selling them for $160. I later sold it on consignment for about what I had in it and wish now that I had it back after seeing what SKS's of any flavor are going for these days.

Wow, I feel like a newbie or a kid when compared to some of you seasoned folks.

My first semiauto rifle ever is a Bushmaster AR15 M4 Carbine acquired in 2010.

Winchester Model 100, chambered in .308. "Harvested" my first whitetail with it in November of 1964 in Michigan. Wish I still had it..

Thanks, I've been shooting pistol for a long time but never owned a centerfire rifle. The M1A is the only centerfire rifle I've ever really wanted and I just recently got to a place in life where I could afford one.

First one I ever shot. M-16A2 back in 1989.
First one I ever bought? AK-47. It was an Egyptian Maadi rifle I picked up in 1998. Why? Because it was cheap.

My latest one .... BN36 rifle ... also known as a 30-06 AR (or as I like to call it, a 9 pound 21st century Colt Monitor)

Benelli Argo (R1)

A considerable amount of each months paycheck have gone to feed it since I got it in January, such a joy to shoot. great synthetic stock, I take good care of it but am not afraid to really (ab)use it.

Really need to get into handloading to afford to feed it.

little recoil and with the adjustments possible it really fits like a glove.

only problem is that I know want the shotgun aquivilant

no but seriously the one problem I have is that it is a hassle to suppres, but on the other hand it is an excuse to still use my tikka which is kinda new to
I do some hunting for the local government kinda in the neighbourhood and do take care of animals involved in accidents. And most of my pighunting I can still get'em due to the recoil being low and the reload is instant

My first semi-auto rifle was a Romanian WASR 10/63. I was working a minimum wage job at the time and just starting out with getting into firearms. I like the way the AK looks and was surprised I could pick one up for less than 500 dollars. I paid 415 dollars for it when purchased back in 2006 and had it for a couple years. It wasn't the best looking AK but it did work and was reasonably accurate but I really had trouble hitting anything beyond 100 yards. I didn't do much research before buying it either. It disgusts me that 7 years later the same rifle is going for what the Arsenal SGL series went for just last year. AK prices have gone up quite a bit apparently.

My first was a Glenfield 60 that my Grandfather gave me. It got stolen when I went overseas as a private contractor. The first one I bought on my own is my Chinese SKS. It is my deer rifle.

Mine was a Glenfield model 60 because it was about 10 dollars cheaper than the exact same gun with the Marlin name on it.

With all these model 60's as first semi-autos and likely first guns, I'm surprised there is so much debate when someone asks what is a good first gun. I always answer a model 60 even though they aren't 34 dollars any more; they're more like a hundred and 34 dollars.
