Indiana CWP
My name is Rick. I am a new member. Any help would be greatly appreciated. I had a 4 year permit 3/24/09 - 3/24/13. I applied for my lifetime 1/2013. I contacted ISP and they said 8-10 weeks from the date your money order was cashed. 1/4/13. Here i am on 6/27/13 and still no permit. The ISP Officer I spoke with said if I was being denied my permit they would not of cashed my money order. The only trouble I have ever been in is when I was 18, I was arrested for Minor Consuming. Once again I did receive a 4 year, so I wouldnt think that would be of any issues. Can I still carry while I wait? Thanks in Advance.

First, welcome to TFL. Second, you have a License to Carry a Handgun, not a Concealed Weapons Permit. Semantics, maybe, but it does make a difference. I digress...
Just wondering, how do you know the money order was CASHED? I strongly doubt your MO was cahsed the day after you submitted your application for an LTCH. I have heard of people waiting quite a while for their LTCH's to come in. I don't see where you should have any issues with passing your background, since you did get your 4 year license. So my guesses are as follows: 1) Wrong address in their system, possibly due to a discrepency between your previous address on file and current, or error reading your application. 2) Someone with a similar name got in serious trouble, and they have to do a deeper background check to conclude it isn't you. 3) They're still working though a backlog, and your MO was cashed somewhere closer to March-April. |

Jimmy,
Thanks for the quick reply. When I called ISP the first time and received an automated recording it stated waiting time was 8-10 weeks from the time your money order was cashed. So I called Money Gram and they stated it was cashed on 1/4/13. So after that i followed the recordings steps and emailed them with all the info needed. I received a auto reply saying it would be 14-16 weeks due to the high volume of applications. Next week will be 7 months. When I applied for my 4 year it took about 2 weeks to receive in the mail. Every where I have read up on this Indiana seems to be the slowest state. Once again thank you. |

NWI,
You may want to join the Indiana Gun Owners forums, they have a long running thread on the waiting time for a license: http://ingunowners.com/forums/carry_...ltch_wait.html It seems like the current wait is similar to yours. As I recall, your old license along with the receipt from your renewal can act as a temporary license until you receive your renewal, but you should probably confirm the current rules regarding this. |

Thanks LGF. It appears that IN is one of the slowest to send out your permits. Its been 7 months today they cashed my money order. They sure wasnt slow to do that huh. Once again thanks.
