I really don't appreciate the personal attacks I have gotten here. I relayed what the NEW JERSEY STATE POLICE are telling gunshops and I am getting nasty messages and arguments. I AM NOT THE PERSON saying this, I am relaying what the NJSP has told us. I am done, will not discuss this further. Do what you want. I really don't care at this point.
relaying inaccurate information is just as bad as creating it to begin with.. it all aids in confusing something that is relatively simple to understand....

kind of surprised by your response... working in the industry I would think that you would want to reach out to the SP and get the correct info..

I provided you with the literal law in an attempt to aid you in understanding it... not in an attempt to mock you..

He was probably referring to my post, which was a bit out of line. I just get frustrated with the bad information a lot of gun dealers pass out in this state.

the SAD thing is that a large chunk of the bad info in our state is given to people AT gun shops... I have heard people get told HP ammo is illegal... gun must be in a locked case when transported... this gun or that gun is illegal... its pretty bad considering you are working in the industry..

No, he was referring to those posters who pointed out that he was incorrect in saying that the detachable vertical foregrip shown on one of the two ARs in the photographs in this thread was a prohibited (i.e. "evil") feature.

He was incorrect. Or, perhaps more precisely, the information was incorrect. The text of the law has been quoted in this thread. Similar to the late, unlamented Federal AWB, the definition of "assault weapon" starts off as a rifle with a detachable magazine, and then adds two or more items from a specific list of five items. One item off that list is A-okay ... two items creates an assault weapon. One item is a pistol grip that protrudes below the action, and that's a defining feature of an AR-15, so that's all you're allowed.

BUT ... the list of five items is specific, and it does NOT mention anything about vertical foregrips (detachable OR fixed).

And, FWIW, it also doesn't mention scopes.
