Glock spring question?

I read that the initial Glock Gen4 springs were too soft and stamped as #3 on the end of the guide rod. Also I read that the new improved spring was stamped as #4 on the end of the guide rod... The second thing I read is that the new Gen 4 handle back straps were included in the case.

Now I just bought a Glock 19 Gen4. The spring and guide rod is stamped 5539 not #4..Also across from that stamp is a (1)... I would assume that by this date that I have the corrected or upgraded spring by now. .However I do not like the fact that the case did not include any extra back straps in it.. And the back strap on the gun is molded in place and does not slide off...Whats up with all of that??? Please help with answers if you will...Thank You.

As far as I know, the Gen 4 guide rod and ejector issues were fixed well over a year ago. I don't know about the numbers on the guide rod, but all Gen 4s come with a medium backstrap and a large backstrap (and the most recent ones come with two more backstraps with beavertails). The small backstrap is a permanent part of the frame; if you want the grip to be the smallest of the three options just don't put any of the extra removable backstraps on it. So with no backstraps on it's small, then you can add either a medium or a large backstrap to give you three total sizes.

If you got a new Gen 4 with no backstraps in the box, something is wrong. Is it possible you actually have a Gen 3? Gen 4s have "Gen 4" marked on the slide.

The updated spring assembly should be marked 034 and the updated ejector is marked 30274.

If there is a backstrap installed, you have to remove the rearmost pin from the frame before it will come off.

"I see" said the blind man. DOH!...Yes it is a Gen 3. I just assumed that they would have been sold out by now...I now don't know if I like this revelation or not.

Gen 3 Model 19 is the top of the line as far as I'm concerned. The Gen 4s have the bugs worked out now, but I like the Gen 3 guns better because that is what I'm used to shooting. YMMV.

If you were you looking for the Gen 4 back strap feature I can see how you would be disappointed. The new slides are marked

They haven't stopped producing the Gen 3. They are currently producing both the Gen 3 and Gen 4. Some people don't like the additions on the Gen 4 so they get the Gen 3 and vice versa.

I have replaced the springs in my Glocks wirh 22 lb Wolf springs.
