Unmarked sharps carbine

Found a 45-70 sharps carbine at a local shop that has no import marks at all but has the tell tale saftey added to the breechblock. Any idea's on how to tell who made it with out a import or manufactures mark?

Proof marks will tell you where it was made. Most Sharps replicas are made in Italy. If the one in question is also, it will have provenance stamps, small stamps that identify the maker, stamped into the action or barrel. If it has no provenance stamps or country of origin stamps, it may be made in the USA, there are a few US makers who make sharps replicas, but they mark their products conspicuously, either on top of the barrel or on the side of the barrel.

A few years ago, there were unfinished cast Sharps receivers available through Shotgun News, and it may also be one of those. If so, it may not have serial numbers or they may be rather crudely applied.
