That's a good point - I don't think people will stop panicking until they not only see ammo on the shelves, but they see it sticking around longer than a day or two.

Yes, we need to shoot less until availability is back and prices come back down to a pre-Newtown level.

In a year or two, I suspect, there are going to be lots of guys trying to sell their overpriced ARs.

Today I saw 9mm on the shelf at Wal-Mart (1 box limit). It was the pricey hollow point stuff, so I passed.

Later in the day I ended up at Bass Pro Shop. No 9mm on the shelves, but some Hornady steel case 40 S&W (also pass) but more .45 ACP than you could shake a stick at. WWB 100 round boxes - at least 10 on the shelf. Winchester White 50-round boxes, at least 7. Remington UMC 100 round boxes - 2 on the shelf.

I know 45 ACP has been more available generally than the other two, but this was the first time since the panic began that I have seen boxes and boxes on the shelves, and seemingly staying there. I did pick up a 100-round box of Winchester UMC.

I did feel sorry today for one person - as I was looking at the ammo in Wal-Mart a sweet lady about 65 years young asked me where in the world she could get some .22 ammo. Her and her husband always come down here for a month or so and they just buy ammo when they show up. This time - no luck. I told her I was sorry but she needed to try one of the local gun shops and hope that she doesn't pay too much.

I think when boxes of .22 are back on the shelves we will truly be getting back to normal (depends on the price, of course!)

The clouds may be parting in parts of the country, but there's still some dark thunderheads here in NJ and other states like NY, CT, MD, CA, and CO. New legislation is going to create a demand for certain firearms and accessories, including ammo, before a deadline.

I haven't even bothered looking at my LGS or WalMarts lately, so I'm not sure how the situation is around here. But reading the OP's post has given me some hope! Just the thought that this whole crapshoot might be getting better has made my day.

Re: Could the clouds be parting?

I've bought magazines from a booth advertising clips at a gunshow. Didn't see any clips at all.

My LGS actually has EBGs hanging on the walls again, they are priced from $800 to about $1,300 each depending on make and model.

Ammo is still a little tight, specially .22LR, but I see typical defense calibers, 9mm, .40SW, and .45ACP.

Walked by the ammo case at a local WMart in northern NC.

Nothing worth buying.

Went to Academy today and noticed a lot of ammo, just not the real popular calibers (.223, .308, 9mm, .40 or .45).

I think we're at the beginning of the end of the hysteria.

One thing I did notice throughout this mess is that there has always been plenty of shotgun shells. I think I'll start shooting skeet with my Mossberg 930SPX.

Local Wal-Mart had two Winchester White Boxes of 9mm on the shelf at 10 AM.

One box limit, so I grabbed one for $22.97. First time that I have seen a WWB in any caliber on the shelf in about three months. Don't know if it is the one-box limit (started at no limit, went to a three-box limit and now down to one) or supply finally catching up.

Or maybe (just maybe) the panic buyers have settled down, and it no longer makes sense for people to snatch up every box of ammo they can, thinking they can flip it and make a profit.

That's AWESOME!!! Winchester White Box 9mm at normal prices.... Great!! I was watching a website last nite and I caught the end of some Tula Ammo 50 round box 9mm for $13.95 per box. I know it's cheap ammo but still...... it was available.

Mike Irwin has started a thread in this forum titled The "Where is everything?" thread -- guns, ammo, primers, powder, etc... That's the one, central thread where discussions of the availabity of these things should now be taking place. Feel free to continue the conversation there.
