Good on you for keeping it, but I was in a similar boat. I'm still in the Marine Corps, and I opted against buying an AR15 for that very reason. I don't get a kick out of shooting the AR15 after shooting the M16 for so long.

Glad to hear I'm not "too" weird.

Seems to be pretty common that current military/prior service folks just don't get a huge thrill shooting the AR. It's a tool, but a good one to have in the toolbox.
