Extra magazines for CC gun?

How many magazines do you own for your primary concealed carry gun?

My current EDC is a Glock 19. I have about five mags for it and about five more Glock 17 mags I use as backups. I figure if I go through a 15 round mag, then I might actually need the extra two rounds in each 17 mag.

Because I don't think you can own too many mags for any gun. But for carrying I suggest 3 including the one in the gun so I guess if you mean own then a minimum of 3.

I rotate my CCW, but for all but one, I have 2 mags per gun.

I have 4 mags for my Springfield TRP which, in addition to being my favorite CCW gun is my favorite range gun.

I have 6 for my duty gun, an FNP45T. Off duty I carry a 1911, either Officers or Commander size, and I have at least 50 full size mags and 20 compact mags total. Having that many mags was not intended, it's just that I have quite a few 1911s in addition to the ones I carry and mags tend to pile up as you buy, sell, and trade guns. Out of all those mags a 20 or so are set aside for carry and competition use, the others get used on range and traing days. I always carry two spare mags for whatever gun I'm carrying.

*BTW, I thought I chose "More than 20" on the poll but apparently hit "20" instead, sorry. Clearly it's too early for me to be voting.

I try to keep about ten...

When we practice, we drop a lot of mags in the dirt and rocks, on to the cement. I wind up damaging some. A running count of ten gives me spares and parts.

I have two spares. Usually I only carry one spare with me. I need to get a couple more spares, but I figure one in the gun + 2 spares is enough to carry for me anyway.

We try to have at least four mags for every gun, carried or not. It just seems to be a nice solid number.

I own 10+ for every Glock I own. I carry one spare for my ccw. The only reason I have so many mags is the were cheap. For my 1911's I have dozens also because the were cheap. For my Sig's I have a half dozen or so for each.

My primary is a 5" 1911 in .45 acp ....and I have about 12 mags...

When I carry it, I rarely carry an extra mag... 8 + 1 rds is plenty in a carry gun, in my opinion.

The more interesting question would have been how many do you carry WITH you. How many are at home is irrelevant.

I don't think how many you own is irrelevant at all. Preparing for supply issues or just having them on hand for home defense is a well thought out consideration.

I have 13 magazines that fit my CCW.

I have 8...was 9 until last weekend when I ran one over with my tractor. when I shoot I like to load up 5 or 6 of them and get a little magazine change practice while getting shooting practice. The one I ran over is the first one I destroyed, so maybe I don't need that many.

I thought it was how many you carry "2" but I have about 9 or so.

for my main CCW (sig p239) I have 4 "go to" mags and about a dozen other range mags and enough components to build at least 6 more (springs, followers, mag body, etc..)... ( i usually carry 1 mag in the gun and 1 mag in a single mag holster and rotate mags each week)

i like to have at least 4 excellent quality mags and at least the same number of range mags for each pistol i own. (same with rifles)...

of course some guns like my AR's, 92 and 96's and 1911's I have considerably more mags....

Had it been a general question about what a person owns yes...his question was specific about CC. Anyway

There are three different guns I regularly carry. An SP101/J638, a Kahr CM9, or a Glock 19. I have a magazine in the weapon, spare on the hip and one in the car. For the revolver I keep a spare double mag pouch with two HKS36 speed loaders on my hip and in the car. One speed loader has shot shell and the other with 38 critical defense (the conical shape aids in reloading). So 3 is my minimum personally. 4-5 is more realistic though as I have a spare safari land loader or mag spirited about the here and there around the house and a lock box in the trunk with a spare mag and multiple speed strips for every gun I own.

Ah. See I thought the question was how many do you "own" for your carry gun. I guess I must have misread it...

Just changed my main carry gun over to either a FNS-9 or a Kahr CW9.

I have 3 mags for each of them.

My previous carry gun CZ-PCR has 7 mags with it, and I intend to stock more for the new guns as well, but availability and finances aren't quite coming together at the same time to do so.

Own? Or carry?...

For most carry/duty type pistols Id own 03. Maybe 04 if the pistol needs it.
For a 7/8 round mag type pistol I'd tote at least 02 spare magazines(fully loaded). With a 16/17 round I'd feel okay with just 01 magazine.
I highly doubt I'd get into a extended firefight where 34/35 9mm rounds are fired. BUT, if I was in a remote area or a post w/o LE near by, a 12ga shotgun or extra mags may be close by.

Any armed citizen or license holder should carry at least one spare magazine.

Many cops & security officers in my metro area now pack 3 full size pistol magazines.

Yeah, me too. Especially when the first post is:

Anyways, Can't have enough spares around. I'm always stomping on or dinging up a mag when we shoot and move. When I retire I'm going to rebuild magazines from my parts boxes and get rich selling high capacity mags. - It's not much of a plan - but it is a plan!

I have 6 total; 3 six rounders and 3 8 rounders.

When I holster carry I have an 8rd in the gun and I may take either 1) 6 round or 1) 8 round.

I use the 6 rounders for pocket carry so I may take one with me incase I want/need to switch to pocket carry.

With my CC gun (Beretta Nano) it is hard to get mags, so when ever I am able to order some from Beretta I do so.

I don't have a CC Mag holster, I've just been putting one in my cargo pant pocket or my bag I take with me in the vehicle.
