I also own a RIA 22TCM that, although has a mild recoil, spews fire like a flame thrower and reports like a cannon.

I was shooting my BFR 475/480 the other day and I looked behind me and there were three or four guys watching. Everyone likes the big boomers, but few want to own one.

Other ones that get looks at the range are Pythons these days, N-frame Smiths, Colt Anaconda, the 22 military training rifles, just about anything that more than 75 years old.... People react to any caliber larger than 357 mag at the range for the most part.

My Webley always gets a look or two

The CZ-52 usually gets people's attention when I fire it

As does a 10mm loaded with Blue Dot

And of course, .44 Magnum is always an attention getter

I used to get a lot of reactions at the range when I touched off my Contender in 357 Herrett, but it had nothing to do with its looks.

Handguns that make you say Whoa!

My S&W Model 329 Night Guard in .44 Mag is an attention getter at the range. It's actually nice to shoot .44 Special loads, but full magnum loads are a bit much. If the bullet doesn't get the bad guy, the muzzle flash will.

I have a nephew who shoots a lot and brags that recoil doesn't bother him. He'll shoot a Desert Eagle .50 cal one-handed. I let him shoot a cylinder of magnum loads through the Night Guard. After he was done, he handed it back to me, holding it like a dirty diaper, and said "That's messed up!" (He used a bit more colorful word than "messed", though.)

This has raised a few eyebrows at the range:

Particularly when folks see hundred yard groups like this:

This is a Freedom Arms Model 97 chambered in 224-32 FA. The cartridge is proprietary to Freedom Arms and is formed by necking down and trimming a 327 Federal Magnum case, followed by fire forming. Velocity for the round with a 35 grain bullet is around 2200 FPS.

Oh, in the interest of full disclosure, I was using a 2X6 scope to shoot this group.

That's what I wondered but it is a great combo that you have there and it resulted in an excellent group! FA revolvers are really very well made.

I would definitely walk over on the range if I were to see you shoot that pistol to discuss it with you - and compliment you.

The one pistol people ask to see the most is the FN 5.7, I guess because it is so recognizable and not many folks have opportunity to shoot one.

The pistol that gets to most comments, both negative and positive is the Rainbow Titanium Sig P232. Gorgeous to some, ugly to others.

This one has never failed to start conversations and at least half a dozen requests to fire a "shot or two." In .30-30 only, though, nobody seems interested in the .45-70. It, in fact, lost me quite a few friends in an indoor range one year.

+1 on the Rock Island Armory

I have the RIA 1911 Full Size Tactial and the RIA compact (Officer), and they beat all of my other guns, including glocks and sigs. I'm by no means nocking the other brands either, but my RIAs are keepers! I guess I am a little partial to 1911s.

Well, full power loads in a G20 or a Smith 629 usually get one's attention.

Pretty much anything loaded with a healthy dose of H110/W296 or LilGun. Anything "boomy" draws attention.
