The solution I heard at the LGS yesterday was this, put all the unemployed people out there to work making ammo..... Got a laugh but there might be something to it.
The joke, notwithstanding...this, unfortunately just won't work. There would have to be equipment purchased. Equipment tooled up. People to train. Raw materials to purchase, etc.

Most companies are very likely producing their most popular items right now at, or near capacity. Going beyond current capacity would be a huge investment of money. And when the panic is over, this investment will be lost in the form of people laid off, and expensive equipment sitting idle.

Correct, Gaerek. No CEO in his right mind will invest huge amounts in plant and personnel to cover what he sees as a temporary surge in demand. The cost of employing new people goes far beyond their salaries. There is a big overhead in administrative costs, health insurance plans, unemployment comp, etc., etc. In some businesses, the administrative overhead on an employee equals or exceeds that employee's salary, especially at the lower pay levels. (Admin costs are fairly fixed, and independent of the actual salary amount.)

How about a cartridge that uses a 209 shotshell primer?
Called a 10, 12, 16, 20, 28, or 410 round - they fit in these new-fangled things called shotguns..............
