My favorite is still the Beretta 92FS/M9. Closest 'runner up' is the CZ75.

Hands down Browning Hi Power, closely followed by the P7M13.

The STI I believe is made by the same people who make Rock Island (name escapes me) but the Rock Island Hi Cap in 45 is nice if you don't mind GI sights. The frame is cast. I like mine and I have small hands.

I would recommend the XDm, even over the standard XD. It's worth the slightly higher price. Interchangeable backstraps, match grade barrel and after market parts are as readily available. You might want to visit XD Talk. I have the XDm 4.5 in .45 ACP for over 2.5 years and love it just as much as when it was new. IT is extremely accurate and reliable and IMO, XDm's are the best polymer framed pistols on the market. I added a solid stainless guide rod along with a PRP trigger kit to mine. It is simply outstanding.

Adding the 460 Rowland kit soon. :-)

For 9mm?
CZ-75 SP-01 : 19+1 and the MOST accurate 9mm I have ever had. For 45ACP? Para-Ordnance 1911a2 14-45 : Extremely accurate but also you can buy a full slide assembly for 9mm / 40 and have a second caliber to shoot. (Saves all your muscle memory on the trigger) |

I'm a big fan of the 3rd gen S&W's. I also like the M&P9\40 pro series.
Some day I'll get a BHP. I prefer steel guns. The M&Ps' are my only ''plastic''.

Next gun show in my area-2 weeks away and I'm defintely thinking about the XDm-9(19+1) or the XDm-40(16+1). It's almost decision time.

Man I didn't know that Glocks would win this as bad as they're winning by a huge margin. I guess people really know what they're talking bout on here.

I have not yet found a gun in 9mm or .40 that controls recoil as well as my PX4 .40 caliber. Very nice to shoot and fits my hand like no other, definitely worth putting on your list of guns to try. It's been my daily carry since Wisconsin started issuing CCW permits, soon to be replaced in that capacity by my SP101 but it's a gun I will keep forever.

History will provide many examples...recent history even more. You would think that with the sheer volume of information available these days, a broad spectrum of informed opinions would exist. Sadly, the exact opposite is the case. For the record, I don't have a dog in this fight. I have owned Glocks, XDs, and even Para LDAs. I don't own a double-stack anything...so I really don't care what you like or what you don't. |
