I decided to take my time to do this so if you are looking for a centerfire rifle in a certain price range you can look at this for reference. *I didn't include every rifle out there, just mainly the ones from the most popular manufacturers. Savage??? You may have overlooked them, but I'm pretty sure they have at least some popularity.

Add the Weatherby Vanguard S2. The factory MSRP listed on the website is $649, but the real world price is around $450. I bought mine new for $425.

H&R fills that gap at the low end so I would definitely want to add them.

Hi-point Carbines could fill the $200 range. Not really a rifle and not really for hunting, but it would put an option in that price range.

I didn't think about the hi-point carbines, but they would work well for that price range.

One of the interesting things i noticed when I looked at this list was Browning, a brand I normally consider to be expensive, is pretty competitive at the given MSRPs. In the $800, $900, and $1000+ I think they have my first choice.

I think their MSRP may be closer to actual retail than some of the others though, at least in the normal market.
