My new Remington R1 (more photos added)
Picked it up at Cabela's yesterday. Haven't been to the range yet but will report when I do. Just wanted to share a couple of photos. Yes there are faces in the paint.

Congrats!
That finish is not really my cup of tea though...

I put a ww11 type hammer on mine and it is a good shooter. Hope you didn't pay extra for the finish.

I am a big R1 fan/owner, but I sure hope they gave you a couple of hundred off for the finish. Hopefully it was a customized approach vs. directly from Remington like that.
Sorry, I do not mean to offend with my comments. Although, beauty is in the eye of the beholder and hopefully quality in this case is more than skin deep. I know mine came with a green protective outer-wrap. You could of messed with that just to josh with the rest of us. Wowsa~ If so, you gotta a great sense of humor. Otherwise, please disregard my callous comments. I hope you enjoy your new pistol, and it serves you well. Do the new ones still come with the Platinum Warranty Plan? |

lamarw. Yes the paperwork for the Platinum warranty was in the box.
As far as the finish goes. Yes I knew I would get a hard time out here about it. It came that way. It is the "Zombie gun" and Remington does make a high end shotgun with the same finish. As to did I pay extra? Any gun sold at Cabela's has extra cost to it and yes this one probably had the price jacked up a bit more just like all the guns finished in the desert tans and browns and camo and 2 tones. You could not get me to buy one because I don't like the finish on them. To each their own. The photos don't do the finish justice. There are zombie faces and heads in the paint job and it is a professional job just like sending one's guns out for finishing by the professional finishers that many people here have sent their guns to. I am not upset that people don't like the finish on the one I own. As I said, I expected it. Yes I do find it insulting to actually say "hope you didn't pay extra for it." That was uncalled for. I bought the gun for me and I like it.

I'm an art fan and can appreciate something different. Some more pics of it at different angles/ sides would be nice. I want to say I saw something similar in a Charles Daly ad in an American Hangunner magazine???

Was that gun on sale? |

Glad you have a tough skin (pun intended) and did not take offense.
I personally think you bought a very good 1911, and I hope it provides you with years of enjoyment and good shooting. |

I'd definitely be getting me some Hornady Zombie Max ammo to match that finish. It's different but I kinda like it.

Thanks all. Your comments have made me feel better today.
Hear people laughing as I left the store? Does anyone get laughed at while carrying a pistol from the store? Lol. Probably, but I only heard the ones who looked over my shoulder during the purchase saying "nice", "wow" "Is that one of the dipped ones?" so I ignored the laughter. Shootniron - It was $749 so doubt it was on sale. Never checked the price at Cabela's for the standard R1 so really couldn't say. I have ordered these grips for it. No I am not a Zombie believer but I do appreciate the humor in the whole Zombie thing and yes I need some good Zombie ammo to go with it. :-)

Oh and BTW. I have been asked if it glows in the dark or under a black light.
I have to presume that just like Bilbo's sword Sting it will glow in the presence of dangerous Zombies. Shoot safe everyone. :-)

You know, anytime you do something different, outside the norm, you have to be ready for anything from a flock of admirers to gentle ribbing to outright insults.
And then you post pics of THAT! You got cojones, Rabbitt. I do like the finish though, I just don't know if I could shoot a gun like that. I'd never want to put it in a holster. |

Definitely unique! All that matters is that you dig it and it shoots well. Where did you order the grips from?

Maybe some aftermarket grips will tie it together better, like some VZ operators.

915A - I found the grips here on ebay.
TO the others. I believe the finish is as well done and as durable as any of the other finishes on many pistols such as the two tone and the desert tans. I am not concerned about the finish wearing off at this time. I might be mistaken but I won't regret it.
