Uberti SAA .452 or .454 Bullets ?
I have a Taylor's Smoke Wagon .45 colt, made by Uberti that I want to reload for. What diameter bullets do you use ?

I cast my own 45 Colt bullets and size them down to .452. I have fired these reloads thru Rugers and Colts only. My reloads do not exceed 900 FPS and are accurate.
I have also fired .454 HDY cast factory bullets thru Rugers in the past w/o any problems. Today, I only use my own cast .452 bullets & Starline brass in 45 Colt because they give superior results. After reading your post I checked my HDY#7 manual and it lists loads for both .452 & .454 bullets in 45Colt (P907-910). I am not familiar with your pistol. My advice would be to use the .452. If you have accuracy problems or other concerns, I would slug your bore. |

Slug the cylinder chambers, and the bore. The bore should be a tad bit smller than the cylinder chambers.
You want lead bullets to be .001 to .002 larger than the cylinder chambers.

My rebarreled 7th Cav Uberti throats slug ,450/.451. I size to .451 and have shot some higher than saami pressure loads without any leading so I assume the bore is .451 or smaller. Currently I'm shooting a 270gr GC cast bullet with Titegroup for velocity of between 700 and 800 fps. This a very accurate load in this gun.

I've got three Baretta Stampedes and the cylinder mouths are all throated for .452 diameter bullets (which shoot great). I'm pretty sure the Stampede is made by Uberti.

I called Taylor's today and asked them what size bullets I should buy. They put me through to their gunsmith and he told me he uses .452 but I could also use .451 in it.
Thanks for the replies. |
