egor20, have you ever tried to draw against your niece at close range? The gun is only good if you can access it.
Jamming draws, or taking the training weapon away from the carrier who attempts to draw, is a lot of fun. Your niece might be onto something. At distance, all advantage goes to the gunner. At point blank, you'd better have it out already, and you'd better be shooting. For that matter, martial arts training not only helps at jamming the other guy's draw, or even taking his weapon when he attempts to draw - it helps the martial artist who also carries at weapon retention, and at drawing against an opposing threat. But back to quotes: "The moral is, beware of middle-aged, grey-haired fat guys - they are tricky." - a co-worker of mine, the other day, after watching weapon disarm training on the mat. |

Not sure where I heard these:
"Don't treat a gun as if it will only harm those you intend it to harm; treat it as though it can harm anyone." "I prefer to store my rounds in the guy breaking into my house!" |

If your enemy is in range, so are you.

So you understand my point, then.
I don't see it as "have a gun, or study martial arts." I see it as two things that complement and supplement each other extremely well. |

Two of my favorites from my GI Joe days:
A gun is like a parachute.... when you need one you usually need one pretty bad... Train like you fight or die like you train |

I refuse to buy a double barrel shotgun in the near future purely in spite of Biden's comments.
Speaking of which, I had to explain to my friend why an Ithaca double barrel didn't have a pump. And he grew up on a farm with about 7 shotguns too.
