7mm Rem Mag Recipe for 130gr Sierra HPBT

The local Cabelas had some as of Thursday/Friday. I refrained from picking some up because I can't find another box of bullets. I only have 100 to play around with for now.

Trimmed, chamfered/deburred, tumbled, and primed a bunch of cases today. Waiting for my fancy new Chargemaster to come via FedEx this week. Using the scoop and trickle method on a beam scale is a killer.

Gonna try 7828 from 67.0gr to 70.5gr in .5gr increments as well as 62.5 and 63.5 and 64.5 with 4350. All using 3 shot groups.

Range report will follow.

7mm Rem Mag Recipe for 130gr Sierra HPBT

Made it to the range on Saturday. Was very pleased with the results using IMR7828 with the 130gr Sierra MK's. not quite sure how to proceed. Not sure if I want to duplicate in 5 shot strings or work around the tight groups in 0.2gr steps and more 3 shot strings to try and tighten it up more....... Have a link to my scanned copies of the targets from the day. Temps were around 42° with variable winds. Haven't run any of these thru the chrono.

Any input from the more experienced fellas?

Made another batch to test out working in .2-.3gr steps around what worked good on the last run. Trying to fine tune it.

Now all I need is a good range day to work this load out and get the lever gun sighted in as well.
Range report will follow in a couple of weeks.

I'm working up a elk load with IMR 7828 for 160 gr. Accubonds. This powder seems to be more favored for heavier bullets, along with RL22, than H4831 and H4350. Would like to try the RL22, but can't find any!

I'm at the IMR published max 66 gr. with 7828, liking the result at about 2900 fps with good accuracy. No pressure signs in my rifle. My old Speer manual #11 says the max is 67, so I may try to get there.

I use the same powder/bullet combo as you TRex, but I think 62 grains is where i'm at, 24 inch barrel, Weatherby Vanguard, with no signs of pressure.
Pleasant to shoot and very accurate and repeatable.

Didn't mean to hijack the thread with talk of a load for a 160 gr. bullet...meant point out that the faster powders work well for lighter bullets and vice versa.

Quick questions for hooligan: have you chrono'd that load? Planning to hunt with it? Seems pretty light for 7mm RM out of a Vanguard, maybe leaving some speed on the table?

No chrono, right now, but it's deadly accurate 3/4 inch at 100 yds, and no haven't taken game with this load. Might go west one day and she'll get the call.

No worries TRex. It might help me out wit these darned 162gr SST's that I'm trying to make work. I may try some 7828 under them and see if my rifle is happy with that powder/bullet combo. Plus it'll help keep the thread alive until I get to the range!

I'm hoping to be able to get 3/8-1/4" groups or under out of something in this next range session.

Hooligan- have you gotten time to hit the range to work out the kinks in that .243 yet?
