Winchester Ranger 230gr JHP Gel Test Results
![]() ![]() Finished up the testing of the Winchester Ranger 230gr 45 ACP (#RA45T) round. Here are the conditions and results. Test conditions: -Springfield Armory TRP with 5'' barre -Test rounds fired from 10 feet -"FBI spec" Clear Ballistics gel block -4 layers of denim Results: -878 fps, 394 ft/lbs energy -14'' of penetration Here's the video showing the test, the permanent cavity, and a discussion of the results: 230gr Ranger T Gel Test HD Video |

Good performance. The Winchester LEO rep has been doing demonstrations for local PDs in my area and they are really pushing the .45 acp +P. I don't see the need for +P but I wonder how your test would do with a shorter barrel. Most departments in the area are carrying the shorter M&P 45 or G21. Thanks again for sharing the info.

I have the +p loads an will likely test them one of these days as well.

I got 876 fps avg from a 3.5" Kahr CW45 using the subject Ranger RA45T ammo. Six shots, 5 paces from the muzzle and the temp was 65 deg F. FWIW, Paul |

Paul105 that is a really good result from such a short barrel. Good enough for expansion and penetration.
