I put about 80-90 rds through it with the new mag tonight with zero issues.
Tried the original mag 3 times and had a failure each time. 2 failure to feed and one jam. I'm confident it was a mag issue and a couple hundred more rounds and I'll fully trust it. Thanks to everyone for the input. |

Congrats on figuring out the issue! I had a PT709 for a while and it was a very reliable firearm. I only sold it because I shot a Beretta Nano and fell in love with it.

I'm glad you chose to be rational in determining the problem rather than listen to the "Oh my God it's a Taurus it must be junk" crowd.
You'll love the gun....trust me. At the moment my 709 is my carry gun and my favorite gun to shoot. Yes I have a Glock....yes I have a Sig 226....and imagine me liking my $300 Taurus more than either of those

I got my pinkie extention in today, stepped outside and put another 30 through it, trouble free...
I wish ammo wasn't so scarce, this is a fun little gun to shoot. Last edited by Paul81; February 17, 2013 at 12:39 AM. |

I have that extension too, and I like it.
Wish I had another mag though. Found one at Gander Mountain, a place we all know is way over priced on everything. $50 for it. I'm not paying that for one 7 round mag. I'll deal with having just one. |

I've had mine for 4 years now. It's a great little gun and runs great. I have atleast 1,500 rounds through mine.
I have guns that cost 4 times what I paid for the 709, and I still grab it more times than not when I leave the house. I guess to avoid a price increase, Taurus went to shipping with one mag. Mine came with two.

No you can buy the gun either way.....PT709B has two mags....PT709FS has one.

Bonefamily, although I had a minor issue with mine, I very happy with my choice.
Enjoy shooting and give up a report when you make it out to the range. |

Glad to hear you figured out the issue.

I bought a brand new Keltec PF9 before and it only came with one magazine. After bringing it home and inspecting it, I quickly found out that my one and only magazine had feeding issues even before I shot it. Sure enough, at the range I was having stove pipes and FTF/FTE's. Could also be the feed ramp not being polished, but I knew off the bat that the magazine was also an issue. Having a 2nd mag would've helped me diagnose my problems. |

All is good
I have the same Tarus slim, and it has been flawless. Not missed a beat.
Wish I knew what to tell you the problem was. What ammo were you using?
