images of my 1953 Browning DA Twentyweight...

just picked it up today. In excellent condition. I originally thought the gun was a Twelvette, but after careful examination it turns out to be a very rare 1953 Double Automatic Twentyweight! 26-1/2" mat ribbed barrel, Mod choke and only weighs 6 pounds!! I'm really happy with this one. It's around 90% condition with little wear. French walnut, hand checkering and engraving. Browning numbers show 675,000 total were built in an array of colors. This model came in both a field and VR skeet gun.

Take a look, for 1953 she looks pretty good...

AFAIK, Twentyweights were issued only with a jet-black finished receiver, with gold-accented engraving.

You appear to have a Satin Grey anodized alloy-receivered Twelvette.

To my knowledge, PetahW is exactly right. Twentyweights were only made in the "Dragon Black" finish with gold-filled engraving (though I've heard reports of a very few being made in the chocolate color) and they were not made until 1956 (maybe as early as late 1955). Too, to my knowledge, all Twentyweights had the word "Twentyweight" engraved on the receiver.

As an aside, I purchased my first Browning Double-Auto shotgun in Dayton, Ohio in the winter of 1961 (a gray-receivered Twelvette), just before I joined the USAF. As I recall, I paid $149.99 for it (new). Imo, in terms of handling and pointing, no finer repeating shotgun has ever been made. Val really validated his father's dna with this design.

I just got word back from the Browning historian Glenn Jensen. The gun is a 1955 vintage Twelvette. I am more than happy with my find.
