Nobody is going to take away your guns.

What is it with the anti-gun folk and this statement? They use it a lot. NOT to start another Piers Morgan thread but he was on Jay Leno, The Tonight Show this week and he repeated the ‘Nobody is going to take away your guns’ statement.

I’m guessing the anti-gun group use the ‘Nobody is going to take away your guns’ statement to paint the gun rights group as being a bunch of paranoid people afraid of what the government is going to do to us. The tone of the statement is always that of the reasonable but exasperated parent (them) explaining something incredibly simple and obvious to the slightly backward and petulant child (us). (note: had to go to the thesaurus for that sentence.)

Well, my question for the anti-gun group is, if none of your proposals are going to take away the guns then how are you POSSIBLY going to reduce the ‘gun violence’?

If the anti gunners have their way, the erosion of gun rights will occur a little bit at a time. Like plucking a goose.

The Big Lie

Quote:

It is called "the big lie". It is a propaganda tactic, usually credited to Joseph Goebbels, the head of the Nazi propaganda ministry. I doubt that he invented the concept, but he did make very effective use of it, and showed others how to do the same.

Basically what the "Big Lie" tactic is, is to tell a lie, tell a big lie, and keep telling it over and over, and over. Do not allow any discussion about it. Ignore any who want to discuss it. Never allow conflicting data to be presented. Ridicule those who oppose. Never stray from the mantra. Keep telling it, over and over, and over time, people will come to first accept it, then actually firmly believe it is the truth.

Does this sound familiar?

IT works best when the propaganda ministry has control of the media. This control can be either forced, or voluntary, it doesn matter to the process, or to the effectiveness of the Big Lie. Get the message out, all the time, everywhere, and people will come to believe it over time.

Want to see it in action? Turn on the TV.....

If someone is telling me that I can no longer own an AR-15, AR-180, SKS*, AK-47, AK-74, RPK-47, RPK-74, SVT-40, M-1 Carbine, M-1A, FN FAL, L1A1, HK-91, MAS-49/56, BM-59, PTR-44, FG-42/II ... then someone is most certainly "taking away my guns".

And I find nothing in their proposals to be remotely "REASONABLE".

The whole argument is stupid for two reasons:

1) They ARE seeking to take away our guns. Imagine a politician deciding to ban certain books that they have arbitrarily decided that people shouldn't be allowed to read. Now imagine this line: "We are not taking away anybody's books. That's just scaremongering. But we are seeking to dry up the supply of these dangerous books that are on the market."

I would think most people would say that just because they are not seeking book confiscation does not mean they are not coming for our books. By seeking to ban the further production of the books, then they would most definitely be coming for our books. Just the same, by seeking to ban the further production of certain guns, they very much are coming for our guns. Not seeking to confiscate the guns people have doesn't mean they aren't seeking to come for our guns essentially.

2) They CAN'T come for the guns people have, so it's a moot argument anyway. It's not like they could do it easily, but out of the goodness of their hearts, are choosing not to. They couldn't do it for two reasons:

a) There's too many guns out there. They wouldn't have the resources or the money to pursue and/or buy back all of the guns in people's hands.

b) Not everyone would comply. They'd either at worst end up with an armed insurrection or at best end up with some people telling the government to go pound sand. In which case, then what happens? You end up with a stand-off, which means unless they can figure out how to take the people down in a non-violent manner, they have to end it violently. If they back off in the end, then that would embolden all sorts of other people to tell them to go pound sand as well.

Thing is, if they take the people down violently, that would look VERY bad. The American people are fine with the government taking out armed terrorists who are trying to kill innocents. They would NOT be fine with the government gunning down John and Jane Doe who are sixty-five years-old and just refusing to give up their guns. Ruby Ridge and Waco did not garner the government good publicity by any means.

And all you'd need is three, four, five, six, or so such people standing up to the government for it all to turn into a public relations nightmare. So they aren't going to seek confiscation because they can't do it.

We're not going to take away your guns.

We're just going to make the magazines illegal, make it impossible to get ammunition, tax you to death for owning them, and treat you like a criminal for owning one.

I have a few thoughts about the line "nobody's going to take away your guns.

1) It's patronizing, and I think it's supposed to be. As the OP noted, "The tone of the statement is always that of the reasonable but exasperated parent (them) explaining something incredibly simple and obvious to the slightly backward and petulant child (us)." I think the listener is supposed to come away with the feeling that gun owners need to be dealt with as slightly backward and petulant children, and that the speaker of the line is the better-knowing parent.

2) As long as something short of "jack-booted thugs kicking in doors" is going on, it allows the speaker to say, "See? I told you they're not taking away your guns." Example: 3,000% tax on ammo, primer, and bullets? That's not "taking away guns." That's just a tax. Full firearms registration? That's not "taking away guns." It will allow the speaker of the line to be technically right in the face of an innumerable other acts that were, in and of themselves, wrong to begin with.

3) It's not just a lie, it's a big lie. It's a whopper. The anti-gun groups will work by small increments, but make no mistake as to what they want. They want the bulk of private ownership of firearms outlawed. (I say "the bulk" because even the most ardent anti-gunners would allow a few elite civilians to keep their guns, IMO.)

Feinstein lists all weapons that are a threat to government. That's the ones they want to take away.

The Tonight Show with Jay Leno is really getting it's mileage using "The Big Lie" tactic.

Piers Morgan was indeed on with Jay Leno Thursday night(1/31/2013). Morgans whole fifteen minutes of 'shame' on Leno boasted his anti-gun rhetoric, how he honors/respects the COTUS and how great England has become since their strict gun laws came into effect. All this fueled by the host of the show Jay Leno.

On Friday night(2/1/31) Leno had the comedian Wanda Sykes on his show. The conversation was about various things and led to the topic of steroid use of sports figures in which funny lady Wanda so comically responded by referring that she felt this was all blown out of proportion and that nobody would question if using Viagra was 'doping' and that some would say using Viagra would be like a using a steroid in obvious areas.
She no sooner got her last laugh out of the doping topic and Leno led her right into her thoughts on the gun control issue.

If you've ever watched Wanda Sykes, it seems to be very evident that she is pro Obama and if Obama said it was good for all of us to pick all the stars out of the sky, she just may agree.

Naturally, her response to Leno's baiting gun control question about her thoughts on gun laws mirrored that of Obama's, Piers Morgans and the rest of the pro gun control crowd.

Seems as though Leno and the Tonight Show staff may be intentionally having pro gun control guests on the show doing the "Big Lie" tactic since there were two consecutive pro gun control people on there in two consecutive nights talking basically the same thing with Leno bringing up the topic ...Hmmm.

As a long time watcher of The Tonight Show, watching since Johnny Carson was the host, I'll be switching to Jimmy Kimmel from here on out.

Of course they are going to try and take away our guns. Just look at the various state laws that various grabbers are attempting to implement.

The following statement was made some years ago by Nelson Shields. At the time he was the Chairman of Handgun Control, Inc., which was later renamed the Brady Campaign to Prevent Gun Violence

Quote:
"We'll take one step at a time, and the first is necessarily – given the political realities – very modest. We'll have to start working again to strengthen the law, and then again to strengthen the next law and again and again. Our ultimate goal, total control of handguns, is going to take time. The first problem is to slow down production and sales. Next is to get registration. The final problem is to make possession of all handguns and ammunition (with a few exceptions) totally illegal.

No need to take our guns if we can't get ammo. I was at Walmart today and swung past the ammo case. A few .17hrm and some shotgun shells. Even the .22 shorts that were there a couple weeks ago were gone. They haven't had any pistol or rifle ammo for a month.

They aren't going to take away our guns. First they're going to take away our magazines, then they're going to take away our "bullets," ... and THEN they're going to tax our (now useless) guns so heavily that we'll be forced to give them up "voluntarily."

Aquila Blanca ... you're starting to sound like Pastor Martin Neimoller in Nazi Germany:

When the Nazis came for the communists,
I remained silent;
I was not a communist.

When they locked up the social democrats,
I remained silent;
I was not a social democrat.

When they came for the trade unionists,
I did not speak out;
I was not a trade unionist.

When they came for the Jews,
I remained silent;
I wasn't a Jew.

When they came for me,
there was no one left to speak out.

... except now it's guns. A little bit here, a little bit there, one at a time, step by step.

They keep saying they will not take away our guns. They are patient and will remove one thing at a time. Magazines, semi autos, then hand guns, then shotguns, etc, maybe even lead so ammo cannot be made any more. Before you know it they will take away everything.

While I no longer own an AR and will not in the near future, it is important we not back down and let them take anything, once we give in just a little they will continue to ask for more.

Of course they will take away our guns. Biden is on record as saying "more gun control won't stop mass shootings but we have to try.".

So, if gun control won't stop shootings, why push for it? Simple, erode your rights and once they can ban one style of guns, based on an arbitrary specifications, they will continue to expand that ban until your guns are gone.

By stating that "no one wants to take your guns" they simply hope that enough people will believe it for long enough to start the banning process. Once it starts, it won't end.

Majority of Sheriff's in the USA will not comply with any new laws imposed to confiscate guns or take away our 2nd ammendment rights! Can't say the same for Police Chiefs!
