Custom barreled 7 WSM leaves other 7 mags in the dust ?
Today I chronograph ed my standard loads out of my 7 WSM today I have a Brux 26" SS 9" twist bbl. 69grs of Re#19 behind a Hornady 139gr SST produced an average muzzel velocity of 3550 ! I couldn't believe it ? I then shot my 22 auto pistol through the chronograph and it read 1100 fps and that was what it should've been. Then my 45 auto 890 fps so was that ! So thumbs up for Brux bbls !!!!

Interesting. The rule of thumb has been that the shorties use 15 or 20 percent less powder than the big brothers, but lose only 10 percent on muzzle velocity.

I would question the chronograph. The RUM wont do that at safe pressure. I have a 30" 7WSM 1000 yd rifle that will not even come close to that. Either the Chronograph is wrong or you are running some unreal pressure.

Two new manuals show 3300 fps for max. loads in the 7mm WSM with 140 gr bullets.
I question your chronograph. The velocity does not matter all that much to me. I have had chrono's for 50 years. How does it shoot? Does it stay sighted in for that first shot? |

Bench work
I shoot off a sheet of plywood over the bed of my truck using front and rear rest. After a couple of fouling shots Its under MOA I think. Soon as its sighted in I start shooting water filled Rock Star cans and have blown them up at 425 yds. I use to live in SF Bay area and shot at local range off a bench in perfect conditions. I don't have that up here in the Nevada Desert so being able to hit tin cans at 400+ yds is accurate and a good shooter to me.
