Trade Glock 17 gen 4 for SR9c?

Hey guys I'm new to this forum and I'm looking for some advice. I own a glock 17 gen 4 but recently got a ccw and would like a smaller pistol to carry. I have a guy offering me his SR9C and 200 9mm rds and 2 mags for my glock...fair trade or should I ask for more? Thanks for the help

I'd do it, my SR9c is my favorite gun.

Unless ...

... the SR9C has a lot of rounds through it. Tear it down and check it. See if you can shoot it first too.

I always ask to shoot any gun I buy from a private seller and will offer to let them shoot mine first. It's always a good idea and has never failed me.

I'd do it in a heartbeat.

But my advice would be to shoot an SR9c (preferably the one in question), or at least fondle one prior to trading.

I would NOT do it. The glock is a much better pistol. Trade it for a Glock 19 or keep the 17. I much prefer the glock 19 over the 17, it's a perfect sized gun.

I have about 1000+ rounds through my SR9c without a single FTE or light strike. I carry it most often and believe it to be very reliable and accurate.

My SR9c has been a good gun so far but, it has had a few issues. Had a light primer strike issue and sent it in for service. Ruger's service department was fantastic. Had my gun back in a week. The trigger on mine was gritty and a bit spongy so I took it apart and polished the connector and replaced the trigger spring.

It is now a great gun.

If you already shoot the Glock platform and like it why change to another platform? Why not consider a G19 or G26? If you don't like the Glock then a change makes sense. The trade deal you were offered is okay; not great but not bad either. He probably has less in on the deal then you do.

I don't own a Glock, but the SR9c I do. Has been flawless through 800 rounds. And it gets better every time I go to shoot. I'd check it out, ask about round count through it. Inspect it and ask to fire it. If you you like it, and it looks good why not.

Thanks guys...

I guess I'm too afraid to trade for a gun when I don't know the owner well. He will let me shoot it, but he is t even the original owner. He's the 2nd owner. I love my Glock I just need something smaller.

I would sell the Glock and BUY an SR9c.

You can get a new one for what you'd sell the Glock for used.

Why would you do such a thing? Don't do that...Keep the Glock 17 and if you're curious about the Ruger, I'll let you draw your own conclusions. I don't know much about the Ruger. But I do about the Glock 17. Keep it. If you're just bored, modify it with some nice night sights.

You could do that for sure. Or you could try and sell/trade for a compact Glock. To be honest Ive never even tried a Glock. I may have to give one a look.

Re: "the G17 is a better gun"

That would be a matter of opinion, IF we weren't talking about a pistol purposed for concealed carry. In the context of a CCW... Yeah. One is a compact, the other is not. Pretty black & white.

My take: if it's an option, carry the G17 through the winter, while saving money for the SR9c (or similar).

Shooting the SR9 or a Glock are pretty much the same and learning how to manipulate another gun is a good thing. The only difference between the two is the SR9 has a better trigger, its slimmer and feels better in the hand. O ya it has a thumb safety, which I like. I have over 2000 rounds through my SP9c with no Problem. I also have 1200rds through an SR9, about 1200 through my Glock17 and close to 3000 through my Glock19, and I still like the SR9c best. Remember knowledge is power and the more different guns you get to use the better, ya never know it might not be your gun you will use to protect yourself or your family.

Personally I would be ok with that trade. Among other things I like the ergonomics of the SR9c better, but every reason I have on my list is subjective. Your opinion is the only one that counts, if you can, rent one and see how you like it.

I might consider trading a Glock pistol, for whatever reason, but I wouldn't trade one for a Ruger. I shot an SR9C for an entire day, and it's OK, but I'd never trade a Glock for one. That's my opinion.

Your Glock used is worth $700+ and you can find SR9C's for $500< right now.

I own a Glock 19 and a just purchased SR9C. The trigger and the grip are better than the Glock, but the Glock is worth way more. The glock is a better quality gun although I love the SR9C.

scottfarm "The glock is a better quality gun"

How do you figure the quality is better?
Saying things without backing them up with some kind of fact! Even if it is an opinion, what does that mean???

You would be getting ripped off if you made that trade. The Glock 17 is a fine pistol but if you think it is too big see if you can trade someone for a G19 or G26. Make a listing on Armslist.com saying that you want to trade gun for gun and I bet you will get an offer.
