single six .22 cylinder?

Buddy of mine gave me his single six, he never used it and bought it 10+ years ago. Its the new model ruger, not sure if I have the .22lr or mag cylinder? Will a magnum fit in a .22lr cylinder? When I put both rounds in, the lr feels looser then the .22mag. There isnt any marks on the cylinder besides the last 3 of the s/n.

.22 WMR will not fit into a .22 LR cylinder. If the .22 mag fits, then it is the .22 magnum cylinder.

Wish I had buddies like that, when my friends are over I have to keep every locked and my hand on my wallet.

If it is a factory cylinder it will say 22 Magnum on the outside of the cylinder and the cylinder will not have any flutes. The 22lr cylinder is fluted. If you have a 22lr cylinder and 22 Magnums fit in it has been modified but should still be safe. If modified correctly the cylinder mouths should measure .223" diameter.

My friend wanted to try .22LR in a .22 magnum revolver but I recommend against it. It deff won't work the other way around.

Maybe for the New Models, Rep1954, but my wife's 3-screw, Single Six Convertible, vintage 1973 or so, is not marked as to caliber on either cylinder, and both cylinders are fluted.

It could be an OM cylinder on a NM gun I guess.
