Question about an older Weaver KW-4X scope?

I bought a rifle last year with this scope on it. It has a widefield optic eyepeice which gives a nice field of view. I haven't yet shot the gun at the range so I don't know if it's zeroed. Just wondering if anyone has this scope and knows how it performs?

I'm leaning towards a variable scope with more mag for this rifle. The rifle is a Remington 700 BDL in .22-250. Thinking about using it for crows, coyotes and other varmints.

I've always had good usage from old Weaver K4s. Dunno 'bout the widefield, but it's likely a keeper.

I'd go to a 3x9 or a 4x14 for a .22-250. It's generally a reliable 400-yard gun, and precision on little crittters is good.

I've been successful on prairie dogs to 300 yards with 7X and 9X, but 14X wouldn't be at all bad.

I have one of the same era Weaver Micro-Trac widefield variable scopes on my 223. On top of that, I used to work in a sporting goods store back when those were sold new, so I had a bit of experience with them. They are fair scopes, not great, not bad, just OK. You would be better served by a Leupold or Nikon scope if you are going to upgrade.

I have one on my Savage 300WSM. It's held up just fine and holds zero well.

I've got a K4 with the "TV view". It's been doing it's job well since before I was born.

The old steel tube Weavers are GTG. I have K2.5, K4 and a KV2.75-5 mounted on centerfire rifles. No complaints here.

You don't get anything fancy, plain reticle, fixed AO, basic turrets.

I've got a 2.5 to 7 power Widefield on the deer rifle my father made me in 1972. Scope has been on that gun since day 1 and is as clear and accurate today as it was 41 years ago. I'll never take it off the gun unless it experiences some future tragedy.

Getting away from the scope talk here. The rifle is most likely a 1988 manu.
Any idea what manner of twist was in the barrel? I've heard anywhere from
1:9 or 1:14 any idea what it might be? How can I measure the twist? Depending of the rate of twist---what bullet weight should I look at for best accuracy at 100yds?

The current .22-250 Remingtons are 1:14, and I would assume yours is as well.

You can confirm it with a patch on a cleaning rod.

I looked it up in an old 1989 "Shooter's Bible". The custom 700 BDL in .22-250 was indeed 1:14" Which bullet weight would this setup favor for accuracy?

55 gr or less. I get best accuracy out of 53 gr HP Match bullets, and many other shooters I know get best results out of their 22-250s with bullets between 50 and 53 gr.

I bet the K4x I have is that same "TV View" widefield type scope. It's a nice scope but I'd like more mag than 4X. On closer scrutiny the scope is a
K-4 W with the "W" probably being the Weaver wide field designation.
