Update on my Hy Hunter.....

The grip straps and grips are finished on my Hy Hunter .357 Magnum, so tried it on the range Saturday:

The guns shoots about four inches low at fifteen yards, so some filing is in order. However there is some cylinder endshake, so I will correct that before doing any serious filing. Gun is fairly heavy for a .357 Magnum, so recoil is all but non-existant.

It is a Hy Hunter Western Six Shooter, made in Western Germany by J.P. Sauer & Sohn, of Suhl, Germany.

These were the successors to the American made Great Westerns which were distributed by Hy Hunter. They later became the Hawes line of revolvers.

Here it is as I purchased it:

The trigger guard, backstrap, ejector rod housing, and ejector rod head are all of alloy. I'm not sure if aluminum or some zinc based alloy. You can see the finish is worn on the ejector rod housing, which I intend to replace with a steel housing as work progresses.
