As a lefty, would a 'neutral' Makarov grip be pricey?

To clarify, I've never owned a handgun, but the choices are down to spotting a Makarov or P-64 at one of our gun shows.

Some on-line photos often seem to depict grips for right-handed shooters.
If there is a term for a grip suitable for both right and left-handed people, I'm totally unfamiliar.

The standard "Red Star" or black grips with the star are friendly to both left and right hand shooters.

Bulgie Mak with standard bakelite Red Star grips.

I'm not familiar with that particular gun, but as a lefty myself, do not feel you have to buy a left handed gun or even a gun with ambi features.

I've been shooting all my life and right handed guns are actually very easy to adapt to so you don't have to limit yourself on gun choices.

Are you talking a "target" type grip with a thumbrest of sorts on one side?

Any of the military surplus grips will be symmetrical, the way you want. My preferred Mak grip is the East German black plastic grip.

In addition to what's already been said...

AFAIK all single-stack 8rd Makarov grips are totally interchangeable between the military pistols and the commercial Baikal or Imez IJ/IJH-70 models without the "H" suffix. This includes the commercial 380 ACP models, as they were basically identical to the 9x18 Mak versions, right down to the magazines!

There was also a double-stack 12rd or 10rd commercial version designated as the IJ-70-18AH or IJ-70-17AH. I do NOT know if the single-stack grips will fit these double-stack pistols. Perhaps someone with more Mak knowledge will chime in!

fwiw, the red bakelite of my bulgarian mak is finger-neutral. The mag release is grip neutral as well. The safety controls are definitely for rightie thumbs.

sorry.

I have been thinking about getting some custom grips made for the Makarov too.

Nothing fancy, same ergonomics as factory grips except the commie star would be replaced with the stylized "O" that I have been seeing on people's bumper stickers for the last few years. I bet that would look nice on a chinese makarov.
