1873 Winchester

I noticed on Davidsons they are listing a 1873 (allocated) from Winchester Repeating Arms: http://www.galleryofguns.com/genie/d...item=534200137

Anyone know who's making them for Winchester and if they'll be offered in something other than .357Mag ?

At thirteen hundred bucks, my guess is that they are making them themselves.

It will most likely be made by Miroku in Japan like their 1886, 1892, 1894, and 1895 rifles. All of them are in the same price range.

Hmm, "firing pin striker block" safety, eh? No thanks, I'll stick with my more period correct Uberti rifles.

Me too. Some folks on one of the cowboy shooting forums are drooling over the prospect of an actual 1873 "winchester" that has WINCHESTER stamped on the barrel. It will also be stamped "made in Japan by Miroku" like my 1886 and 1895 "Miroku-chesters" (that I love). It all comes down to weather you want an Italian or a Japanese replica rifle.

i believe the japanese miroku are the best of the repo,s. i have several italian and japanese repo,s and fit, finish and reliablty are tops. i started shooting black powder in the early 60,s with a navy arms zou .58 and a navy arms 1860 army and both were fine firearms. eastbank.

I would agree if they didn't have the tang safeties and rebounding hammers. Like I said above, I have a Miroku (winchester) 1886 and two 1895 rifles. They are fantastic. Love them. I feel the same way about my Uberti 1873 and Henry rifles too. All of them are "top notch" guns. The Uberti rifles are closer to "original" though.

I saw and photographed a REAL "One of the Thousand" in Lima Peru, at a museum. It was given to the President of Peru back in the day, and was just put in with a bunch of other junk guns in a glass case...

Here are two photos, SHOT THROUGH THE GLASS, AND, NO CAMERAS WERE ALLOWED IN THE MUSEUM, CAUSED A SECURITY GUY HASSLE, BUT I GOT THE SHOTS!!!

I decided to do a separate posting for these images so more folks can see one of these original "One of a Thousand" 1873s!!!
