A Needed Compromise
I have had the privilege of helping to raise and be the father to five incredible kids. I look around my family and I see my wonderful nieces and nephews. I think of how much I love them and how I would do anything to save them from harm. And I thought about the tragic shootings at Aurora and Sandy Hook and the unimaginable pain and loss that were the result.
I knew that I could no longer just sit idly by and let such things happen. I knew that I could not get up in the morning and look at myself in the mirror if I did not do everything I could to end this insanity. I knew that I needed to put everything on the table and do what ever it takes to stop these mass shootings. That is why I am going to write and call all my elected representatives state, federal, and local to encourage them to pass one new gun control law and why I am asking that those who feel as I do, do the same. There is one gun control law that has evidently worked well, Gun Free Zones - they have been very effective at helping to create the perfect killing grounds for homicidal/suicidal killers allowing them to act out their rage and fantasies of fame by killing dozens of disarmed victims. Combined with the media’s fascination and obsessive coverage of these tragedies and the perpetrators and their guns, a perfect storm is created for each new copycat. So I am going to write and call and in strong but polite terms tell them that all gun free zones without armed security must be eliminated now. That no more gun laws or bans that disarm citizens are acceptable. I am genuinely very deeply angry that no one that I see or hear who is a political or media leader is actively advocating doing anything real to protect these kids. The one thing that can directly help to stop these shootings now is an end to these idiotic gun free zones. Last edited by Brian Pfleuger; December 31, 2012 at 10:06 AM. |

I wrote my congressfolks about a week or 10 days after the Sandy Hook shooting, and asked them all to work on repealing the GFZs. I explained the phrase "fish in a barrel" and how that applies to GFZs.
