FTF in Ruger 580-series tactical mini-14
Hello:
I have never had a mini-14 fail-to-feed before - but it has happened three times with my new 580-series tactical mini-14. The mini-14 has always had a reputation as being dead reliable. What could be the problem? It was a Ruger factory magazine. The case shoulder of the round that failed to feed was crushed. Any ideas? |

jambrdly, I am a certified armorer for the mini 14. Did you get it cleared up? If not could you attach a photo? A little more info would help.
When somene at our range had problems it was usually 1 of 2 things. 1. Sometimes they did not have the magazine seated all of the way. 2. The magazine was defective. (Yes it can happen to a new one) I assume the magazine came new with your rifle. Do you have a spare magazine to try? Mark your mags and try both. If it happens again with the same mag you have your answer ![]() Is this happening often? Are you using good ammunition? The Mini is very reliable and robust and out of hundreds I have only sent 1 back to Ruger. It had a bent barrel from a car wreck. |
