Help With A CMMG 22lr Conversion?

Hi all, frequent lurker, infrequent poster. I picked up a Bushmaster ORC AR about a month ago (first AR, first semi-auto). Couple of trips to the range, then a couple of trips to replenish the .223. Looked at my bank account

So... picked up a CMMG Alpha 22lr conversion kit. Kit came with one 25 round mag, and I got 2 additional Blackdog mags. Kit installed as advertised,
BUT... upon putting any of the mags in, the bolt will not close. Appears to be catching on the plastic follower. I can press down the follower and the bolt will slam shut. My question: Is it possible (advisable?) to lightly sand or dremel the followers down until the bolt is allowed to close?

At today's prices, I'd like some advise before I waste 3 magazines. Thanks in advance!

I think you are describing correct function.

The bolt should hold open on an empty magazine.

The problem is, it's holding open without having a "Bolt Hold Open Adapter" installed (a possible option, but thanks for pointing that out).

CMMG sells an adapter that will permit proper operation of the bolt release with evolution magazines

Yep, CMMG sells a bolt hold open adapter, but it requires replacing the followers with lower ones.
