S&W 66-2 what did they cost new?

Anyone know the approximate cost back in the eighties for a new Smith & Wesson Model 66-2 4" barrel?

I think new in the 1980's they were about $150-$200.

In 1978 the MSRP of the model 66 Combat Magnum was $202.00.

In 1986 I paid $275.00 for a new Model 66-2 Combat Magnum with 2 1/2" barrel.

1975 Shooter's Bible shows MSRP at $185. Note, I remember paying around $140 at retail in 1974.

1985 Bible shows MSRP at $319.50

I paid $625 about 12 months ago for a "New in box" early 4" 66 no dash.

Killer inflation was between 71 and 81.

But keep in mind folks, I bought a new Colt Commander .45 in 1974 for the sum of $125 from the stores.

But the take home pay was also not so hot. $150 a week was good pay.

I like the old SA-SO add. They started in my home town (Grand Prairie TX) in 1948 and both Mr Sargeant and Mr. Sowell were deacons at the First Baptist Church. When I was a boy I remember them as old men in the church. As a very young police officer I went to their store and bought my first leather gear and handcuffs. Still have the cuffs and some of the leather in a drawer somewhere.

My dad still has the receipt in the box of his SW 66 6". He paid $357 out the door with all tax and fees in 1987.
