1851 loading lever plunger screw

Maybe dumb question. Which direction is this screw installed on original Colts, RtoL or LtoR? My exploded view shows RtoL. New Pietta London is LtoR. Just wonderin'. Pics of originals seem to indicate RtoL.

Never mind. Further search shows most pics of "London" models are LtoR.

edit: I guess the reason is the same as to why they drive on the wrong side of the road over there?

According to Swayze, on 1st, 2nd, and early 3rd models (SNs 1 thru 30000) the screw went R to L. After that, they all went L to R. For the most part, the Londons went L to R; but there are some early Hartford Londons that go R to L.

Thanks, Fingers. I also noticed in my search the same thing about the Hartford guns. Guess it doesn't matter on mine. Popped off my first balls Saturday. Lotta fun.

Huh? On the 1851, the plunger screw can only go in one way, since the loading lever is countersunk for the screw head. The early squarebacks had it going in right to left, but in all subsequent production it goes in left to right like the loading lever screw.

In the creeping rammer models, the plunger screw is almost always seen with the screw head on the left, but since it is the rammer that is countersunk, and since it can go either side up, the screw can go either way.
