How do you guys like the S&W M&P15-22?

Seems to have great reviews. Any cons? Do they all come with the flash hider (looks so cool lol)? Best place to buy one?

They are a lot of fun, good cheap to shoot plinkers also great for kids. Saw a really good deal at Sportsmans Warehouse last week for around $300

They don't all come with the flash hider. Buds, jet guns, and a few other places get them in stock relatively frequently and they have good prices as well.

Great guns. I didn't want to like them at first because they're mainly plastic, but shooting them has won me over.

We have 3 with 5-6k rounds through them and a failure rate of about .2%, which seems about on par with the occasional bad .22 round.

I like that the operating controls work the same as my .223 ARs. No issues with mine. Lots of cheap practice.

They work pretty much the same as the originals,and are very reliable. I used to go to the range 2 or3 times a year. Since I got my 22 knockoff I go 2 times a week.

I owned one for about a year here is my opinion.

Pros:
Accurate
Reliable
Quad rail
Lightweight
All around great rifle

Cons:
Made of plastic and polymer
Difficult to change rail
I am not a big fan of the extremely long magazine

I ended up selling mine to buy a CMMG Quebec-A. It is a standard AR lower, with a .22 upper. It has a dust cover and F/A, which isn't a big deal at all. The reasons I decided to get rid of it were just my opinion. I like having one closer to the weight and profile of an M4. My CMMG has a 14.5" exposed barrel, with 1.5" of extra barrel length inside the upper to bypass the pesky tax stamp.

I would recommend the M&P15-22 to anyone. I personally just prefer the Quebec-A over it. But please know the CMMG is not any better, but just more of what I wanted. I also wanted to be able to change uppers after seeing the CMMG. It is equally as accurate. So what I am saying is the M&P 15-22 is a top notch .22. You will most likely be tickled to death with it. If you can get one for the $369 that Sportsman's Warehouse had them for, you need to be on that like a duck on a junebug. The are a ton of fun.

Should I pay the extra money for the MOE version? Also, how do you guys like the SIG 522 versus this? I suppose they're not really the same thing, though. Basically I just want a fun .22 rifle. Almost 100% sure I'm gonna get the 15-22 MOE, but it never hurts to look around. Thanks all!

The Smith seems to be the best of the bunch. More satisfied owners than I've ever seen for a firearm. I'm sure the Sig is just fine as well but the Smith looks and functions like a real AR. As far as your original question regarding a flash hider, the answer is no. There are compliant models out there that do not have a flash hider.

As for the MOE, if you like the MOE furniture, then the MOE is a great value. Much cheaper than trying to add the Magpul gear yourself after the fact.

Can't say that I've shot a Henry Golden Boy but can tell you that the 15-22 is pretty quiet.

have had one since they came out. love it and have ran quite a few bricks of ammo thru it. you can trick em out just like your ar15/ar10. cheap plinking thats what is was meant for.

With any ammo on the recommended list (in the link above) mine has ran extremely well (99%). I buy all my ammo in bulk.

I've had my 15-22 for a couple years. Have shot several thousand rounds of CCI Blazer and Federal bulk pack ammo without a single malfunction. I picked up a couple 10 round magazines - didn't like the length of the 20 rounder. I put a Primary Arms red dot scope on it and find it to be quite accurate. A great little plinker in all respects and the operation and takedown is very similar to it's bigger brothers.

I wasn't keen on the polymer construction at first, but don't even notice it now.

Great rifle, it is my only semi auto 22 that will run subsonic ammo like a champ.
