springfield makes a quality 1911... i currently have a mil spec, a stainless loaded, parkerized loaded, and a RO.... no failures what so ever with any of them, great fit and finish, excellent machine work, great products...as others said colt is also another to look at although i prefer my springfields over my colts (personal preference)...currently i have a mil spec, defender, and gold cup models, also great shooters with no failures to speak of... as for the RIA, for what they are, they are great..my mil spec was 400 new, eats any and all ammo, and has reasonable fit and finish... i would not campare my RIA to any of my springers or colts though, their not in the same ball park IMHO

I have a stainless Mil Spec. By thoughts as an actual owner is that it is a great 1911 of you want/like your guns to be simple and reliable. It doesn't have any real bells and whistles like a lot of other models bit it is rugged and reliable. It is all the 1911 you'll probably ever NEED but it may not be all the 1911 you'll ever WANT because of it is so basic. Personally, I couldn't pick a better model for my needs and wants but a lot of people want more options.
