Free CCW Permits...

This could get some people in trouble, not to mention give legal ammo to the enemy...

In the November issue of Guns Magazine (my wife bought it while at the store last month), there is an ad by a company marketing .25 caliber reproductions of famous handguns. The ad states that these guns can be purchased by anyone 18 and older, and with every purchase, you get a FREE CONCEALED WEAPON PERMIT!!!

I don't know about you, but that kind of stuff is exactly what we DON'T need!!!

I don't have the mag in front of me just now, but I'll get the exact page number and the wording of it. I might be able to scan the page and post it, too.

I think that Guns Magazine should be a little more careful about what they accept as advertising.

You buy the gun and you do get a free CCW permit... a copy of the Bill or Rights attached to a copy (complete) of the Constitution. It's a matter of symatics but in reality, it is true...

I saw what you're talking about a while back. It was in a Guns & Ammo or a Shooting Times (can't remember for sure). I just sighed and flipped the page.

But you have a good point in that in the wrong hands an advertisement like that could be totally blown out of proportion.

I have seen such advertisements...

I am almost certain that the reproduction guns are "airsoft" sort of toys, which shoot plastic pellets.

A good friend of mine gave me another perspective on a related issue ... inexpensive guns. If a poor man or woman can only afford a cheap car, a cheap apartment, and cheap food ... why is it wrong for them to purchase a cheap firearm? Are they less entitled to defend themselves and their families? Of course not. And, I know few of us here would dispute that.

I've actually considered helping poor women obtain firearms, permits, training and safe storage devices ... so that they can defend themselves and their families.

Like many questions involving firearms, sometimes reality is a bit more interesting that is first perceived.
