It looks like an HK USPc & a PPQ had a baby and moved the mag release...

The bore axis on the gun is also abnormally high.

I'm sure it'll be a good seller though as Walther makes quality guns.

Ha! The mag releases on the P99 and PPQ are great. Too bad they are trying to more "Americanize" their gun. I can't see how the push button is superior. To each their own. Do you own a walther?

I love the PPQ, P99, PPS, and PPK. I wanted to love the PPX, when I first saw the words, "new Walther pistol". Then, I saw the pictures.

It has a hammer, that's good. Walther did away with the paddle mag release and outstanding, (HK like) slide release lever... that's bad.

I'm surprised nobody has discussed one of the more interesting aspects of the article...

MSRP for the all black [PPX] is $499 and $549 for the duo-tone.

MSRP for the PPQ is $599. Assuming a similar ratio of street price to MSRP as the PPQ, this would put the PPX's street price in the low $400s- Ruger SR territory.

The price, along with the blocky styling, indicates that this pistol represents a new marketing direction for Walther- a pistol intended for the low-price, high-volume end of the commercial market.

Also...

Walther reps called the trigger pull on the PPX a “constant action” system. As I understand it, it is not a true double action pull, but rather a “prepped” pull with a relatively short, and perceptible reset.

IOW the trigger will be somewhat like the SIG DAK trigger, short-reset DAO, but the article does not explain whether it will have second-strike capability.

it looks to me like the PK380 and a HI point did the dirty. aesthetics are disappointing. changing up the mag release is disappointing as well. i really like that style of release, it just makes so much sense. Carguychris brought up a good point about the MSRP. that will kinda be a low price point for a walther. i will be interested in a deeper explanation of the trigger system. walther makes good triggers right from the factory. every walther i own(save the P22) all the way back to the P1 have good triggers. the PPS trigger is great. so

I'm slightly conflicted about this new Walther semi-auto.
The PPX looks a tad aggressive & not well suited for deep concealment but it does offer some great features for defense/duty uses.
My good friend is considering buying a new handgun. He's a non-shooter & entry level so the PPX's DA only/hammer fired system is ideal.
I'm curious to know if the pistol as a ambi-slide release(I'm left handed).
The Walther MSRPs seem about right too, for a polymer frame semi-auto pistol.

Any word yet when this new PPX line will be on sale or available to the US public?
I'd add that I'm interested in knowing if the Walther PPXs would be covered by Smith & Wesson's lifetime service policy. That would be a selling point.

I'm fairly certain that the PPX is designed specifically for the American commercial market- a first for Walther. I also suspect that Walther is targeting the exact market segment your friend is a part of: first-time buyers who are looking for something functional, inexpensive, and simple to use, but not necessarily CCW-friendly.

IOW it targets the same market as the S&W SD-series, Ruger P95, and Taurus 24/7. Its similarity to the SD makes me wonder if this pistol is part of the reasoning behind cutting ties with S&W.

I'd add that I'm interested in knowing if the Walther PPXs would be covered by Smith & Wesson's lifetime service policy. That would be a selling point.

It sounds like the PPX won't hit stores until well after the S&W/Walther sales relationship is terminated.

Ugh. Is this a real Walther or an Umarex posing as a Walther (P22, PK380)?

They appear to have gotten rid of some of the best features of the P99/PPQ , such as the awesome striker systems and mag release.

That said...this thing looks like it took a long fall off the ugly tree and hit every branch on the way down.

Too bad it's so ugly, but then I prefer my guns hammer-fired anyway. Someone will love it, no doubt.... plenty of love out there for ugly guns (not naming any brand names, of course! )

Im mixed on if i want it to succeed or not.
A- succeeds and walther may continue to put out ugly umarex guns for the US
B- gets their toes wet in the US water to find out its too cold and wont try again for a while








and then there is C, where I hope they wind up.

C- they realize they already make the perfect gun (P99AS) and decide to make a hammer version

In fairness, everyone thought the p99 was the height of ugliness when it came out, and lots of people thought the ppq was even worse.
Based on my own experience with Walther I'm going to withhold judgement until I actually get a chance to hold one. How a gun feels in my hand and how it shoots are far more important to me than how well it photographs.
