My 7 year old son's first deer.
My 7 year old son used a .223 AR to shoot his first deer this morning.
We used a ground blind and a tri-pod rest. Two deer showed up, he was paitent and waited for a good shot on the bigger one. He shot his first deer on his first day of hunting - ever. The doe was just 15 yards away and went only 20 yards after the shot. Rifle is a Windham SRC with a Bushnell TRS-25 red-dot. He used my handload, a 60 gr. Nosler Partition chronographed at 2,807 fps from a 16'' barrel. The bullet made small entry and exit holes, but did significant damage to both lungs. Proud Dad & excited son, awesome!

Congrats!
Looks like you have a life-time hunting partner. Do you know how much it weighed? Looks like a pretty good-sized doe. |

Congrats, looks like a happy young man.
I am sure he will want to make many more trips after getting his first. That will be some fine eatin' too. It will taste all the better knowing you and he shared this moment together. Last edited by sc outdoorsman; October 14, 2012 at 03:15 PM. |

good shot. I am training my 11 year old daughter on her 25-06 so that she will be ready for next year when she able to get her Jr. license. She is already adept with the 22-250.

Congratulations! I'm always happy to hear about when a kid shoots his first deer.
