M77 MarkII Target
I've heard mix reviews, they either shoot real well or mediocre accuracy?
I purchased a new Target model 22-250 years ago for my Dad,he never could achieve the accuracy he was looking for with that rifle? He traded it off for a HB Rem 700 in a 22-250 and has been happy with his choice and groups ever since. |

A couple of magazine reviews said nice things about the rifle. I'd expect it to be an excellent shooter.

I just put one of these on lay-a-way. I found it at a local pawn shop and got it for $460. The rifle will have either a 1&12(older) or 1&9(newer) twist rate, I believe the older ones (brown stocks) have the 1&12. I bought mine to do some light plinking with the wife & kids, I am looking to run some 40-55 grain loads in mine. From what I have found the major reason people were having accuracy issues seems to be running heavy bullets in a 1&12 barrel. How much can you get the one your interested in for?

The newer Rugers all seem to be shooters. Good choice.

The new ones have 1:9 twist. I plan on buying one this spring. I had a one with a 1:12 twist a few years ago and it shot 1/2 to 3/8 in groups with Hornady and Black Hills ammo. I regret selling it. I thinks they are a very nice gun and you could not not talk me into anything else and I work at a gun store.

One of my shooting friends has one, one of the "older" ones I guess. 1 in 12 twist. It came factory free floated, however we put a rubber shim between the barrel and the stock about 2 inches from the forend. With just free floating, the groups would string. With the pressure point it shoots clover leaf groups. Very smooth strong action. If you are in the market for a 223 varmint rifle, I wouldn't think twice about buying it.
