Duracoated my Glock 26

Decided my glock was about due for a change, so I had the frame duracoated "woodland tan" and left the slide black for a nice two tone look. I had a local gun shop paint it for me, I did not want to risk having a poor finish on a several hundred dollar gun. They charged me $50 which I thought was a little over price, considering I stripped the frame myself and spraying it probably took 15 minutes. When deciding whether to due it or not I didnt find too many g26s duracoated this way for reference. Thought Id post the pics up to help others decide.

I havent shot it yet since reassembling, but I have worn it several days in my galco king tuk holster and, taken it on deer hunts and the finish seems to be holding up well. Only a couple nicks on it so far.

time will wear the finish off so your going to have to repaint it in the future so save the 50 bucks and do it yourself but it does look good and better that you didn't do the slide

Thats what I figured.. I'm pretty disappointed with the durability, I find my self babying my glock worrying about the finish. At least it gives it a little character.

A gun is a tool and if you are worried about damage leave it home because with time it's going to get bumped or dropped or even worse confiscated when used in a self-defense situation (1-3 YEARS)

to paint a plastic frame you have to treat the plastic and remove all residue and then tape up all the inners from spray over so there is some time involved

the gun looks great and was done right with stripping the frame

Lol yeah, it does look different than it does in person. The flash from the camera messed with the color a bit. Its darker in person.

Real men wear pink.

Reminds me of the "desert" paint-scheme P-40 Warhawks used in North Africa during WW2. They were pink too.

Also the SAS Land Rovers in desert camo:

Think of it is a defensive technique. You get into an altercation, draw your firearm, and while the other guy is drawing his he looks at your gun and freezes saying to himself, "Is that pink?". Battle won.

And that is why flat dark earth was invented.

So tan wouldn't look pink in photos.

I've had pretty good luck with the durability of duracoat.
As far as the price goes, it's almost $40 to buy the stuff you need, so if they provided the paint $50's not a bad deal.
Granted, when you buy it yourself you can paint like 2-3 long guns (I've never used it on a pistol) but it doesn't keep well once mixed, so unless you have a bunch of stuff you want the same color, you're not going to save much by doing it yourself.
You can also retouch it really easily, so I wouldn't bother babying the gun. Me and a few friends go in together every few years to buy a can and coat our hunting guns. That way, we don't have to worry about them rusting if we don't get the rain out of every crevice.

"Pink." So, you're all running calibrated graphics monitors? Wouldn't comment on color unless you know the camera has been white balanced correctly for the light source and you're using a calibrated graphics monitor. The color space is sRGB and the image is probably a JPEG - you can't judge accurate color from a highly compressed JPEG on the Internet.

Can't believe I'm saying this, but that's a nice looking Glock you have there.

And of all the math equations, sci-fi references, and whatever else I've seen on this site, this comment ^ is by far the nerdiest of them all.

It does look pink...I've seen some duracoated guns. They wear so fast. It's just paint. Not a metallic based finished. Maybe it'll do better on plastic?

Pink.

If anyone gives you crap just put on a real serious face and tell them about your ?great aunt? who baby sat you growing up and is fighting breast cancer. Throw in something like "If only her treatment was as reliable and effective as this Glock," for good measure.

Everyone will walk away with a good story.
