UZI Barrel ?

I recently acquired some firearms from my brother.
Among the lot is a 9mm uzi. It has a bunch of extras with it.
Among them is a 10" barrel. Is this barrel even legal to own.
It is not on the gun at this time. Was just wondering.

Yes..It has a collapsible stock on but also has a fixed stock with it

That barrel would be questionable, then. Unless you want to make an SBR out of it, I'd probably just sell that short barrel.

It depends on what type of barrel it is. Most 10 inch subgun barrels won't fit a semi-auto Uzi. Now if it's a cut down semi-auto barrel, then that's a different story.

Barrel doesn't look to be cut down. Has a five digit ser.# plus a P proof of fire mark stamping.It also has some other stampings but can't quite make them out.

Pull your long BBL out of your carbine and lay it next to the short one. Compare the diameter of the BBL right where the chamber is. If they are the same diameter... you have an illegal short BBL rifle, so get it as far away from the carbine as possible and contemplate either (A) getting rid of it RIGHT NOW, or (B) sending it FAR FAR away for a vacation RIGHT NOW while you send in an ATF Form 1 to allow you to manufacture a short barrel rifle, or (C) keep and plan a nice vacation at Club Fed if you are ever caught with it.

There is a market for these BBL's, and the easy thing to do would be to give it to a friend who does not own a Uzi and then let them sell it. Registered short barrel rifles based on this platform are pretty common, as are people wanting them to make legal SBR's.

Now, here's what is most likely: You very well may have a submachine gun BBL, which is legal... sort of... with caveats.

"Most" of the short BBL's floating around are original SMG barrels and do not fit the semi-auto carbines without modification. The chances are that when you compare the two BL's you will find that the short BBL has a larger diameter at the chamber end, meaning that it will not fit into the carbine without being reduced in diameter on a lathe. If that's the case, you have the "makings" of a short barreled rifle, and if you send in an ATF Form 1 with $200 and wait about six months, you can then have the BBL turned down and have a legal short BBL rifle. Or you can just keep it as a curiousity.

If you do the latter, you still "may" be hassled... it's close enough to having an unregistered SBR that you "might" be construed to have constructive posession of same... make your life simple and either register the darned thing or get it outta the house.

Well I compared the two barrels and they are the same.
I will be giving this barrel to a friend that's doing a gun show shortly.
Are you able to sell these legally without any problems.
As I have no idea of a value what would be a fair price to ask.

They are legal to own if you have a legal SBR or do not own a Uzi at all. You can sell without fear, it's the buyer who is the one who might break the law by purchasing it.

Value.. $50 or so depending on how badly someone wants one. It's a bit of a specialized item.

At the very least get it moved to a different place than the rest of your stuff as soon as you possibly can. Even better... get rid of it.

Buyers need to look out for themselves. There are plenty of legal SBR owners, new guys submitting Form 1's, guys who want to thread for a legal SBR/suppressor combo, etc.

The "illegals" are probably outnumbered by the legals. SBR's (and suppressors) are getting as common as single shot .22's in my neck of the woods. Can't go to the range without seeing them now. They don't even attract a look.

Caveat Emptor... that's BUYER beware.

Is there a hole through that short barrel? UZI's came with a dummy 10" barrel (made of aluminum) that could be put on the gun so it looks like the SMG. A short "chamber" at one end and a hole an inch or so long at the front.

Actually, the dummies are only about 4 inches long and don't protrude back to the barrel block in the receiver. Hard to confuse them with a SMG length BBL.

If it is a proper pistol/sbr barrel just sbr your uzi and use the 10 inch barrel barrel.

Or sell it to going quiet. I'd buy it if I didn't have a spare already.
