"How do you guys decide when and why you close a thread?"
Beer and dart board. Almost all closed threads will include a final post by the moderator who closed it indicating why it was closed. As for duplicate discussions, sometimes they are merged, sometimes not. Depends on the discussion in each one. My rule of thumb is generally to close the one with the least activity, even if it was opened first. Why close one with 30 posts just because it's a few hours younger than one with 5 posts?

Where do you live, Mysto? That looks not unlike where I grew up in Pennsylvania.

Entertainment is what these types of forums is all about. One can only ask/answer "what caliber for bear?" and ""which is better, Ruger or S&W?" so many times without falling asleep. Sometimes, I even find myself stirrin' the pot a little to see how exciting the entertainment value will get on a particular thread. Not that it's a bad thing...........

The topics are focused on guns, and the moderators do a good job of keeping the rabble on topic. Some of the endless threads on bear defense and which round has more knockdown power are amusing. I've gotten a wealth of good information and guidance here. |

And sometimes people who strut the put unjudiciously find themselves permanently banned.

I never thought of humor as corky before. Beats idiosyncratic though.
I've learned a lot from this forum, mostly that I don't know that much. |

I am in north central Pa. My home is over looking the Susquehanna Valley and at the mouth of the Pine Creek Valley. Right at the T between both valleys. It's a very mountainous and wild part of Pa. Black bear, deer, coyotes, turkey, etc.. are regular visitors to the woods around my home. The bald eagles have made a huge come back here as well. I see them regularly.
Here is a pic I just took this week of Pine Creek. ![]()

I am impressed. 'Envy' would be a more accurate word.
Thanks, salty
