Broke down and order a 590A1.

Just an 18" with bead sight. Maybe add a +1 extension on it and a light. Just for HD and some possible range use. This being my first shotgun did'nt want to spend on all the bells and whistles. If I like it will probably get the 20" with grs down the line for range play.

Anyone have any input on a possible +1 extension and how easy it is to install?

Excellent choice.

Im not aware of any mag extensions for the mossberg. there are plenty of high cap magazine tubes you can buy though.

I traded in my original 8+1 590 for the 18" 590A1 with ghost rings and the speedfeed stock. I couldn't be happier, easily the most reliable and durable gun I got. I've gotten it to jam (590 as well) with cheap, cheap birdshot, but that wasn't the gun's fault. Love it, rough it up and shoot it. It likes it that way

Apom, You are talking about some range use and possible range play and I think with a 500A. If so, you will probably want to be able to use screw in choke tubes. I believe you can get a longer barrel that takes them for the 500A, but am not sure if there is one that can be swapped out for the security barrel on the 20" model due to its higher capacity magazine.
