Best pistol(s) purchases you ever made? (Cost/most wanted)
What is the best pistol you have ever purchased? Additonally what is the best deal you ever got on a pistol?
For myself a colt gov model 1911a1 is the best pistol. Best deal would be a trio of pistols I picked up for the cost of the transfer fees only (sig 228, beretta 92fs compact and a stainless beretta 92fs). If I purchased just the mags that came with the sig it would have cost more than the whole package (6 mags)... ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Lets hear some stories... |

The best pistol ? A Stoeger 8000F L (Stoeger Cougar), I bought months ago. Freaky accurate and absolutely reliable. Also the cleanest pistol I've ever seen - it just does not get dirty inside (only the barrel and breech face) - regardless of the ammo used.
Best deal ? I'm not sure. I guess I'd say the Stoeger again. As good as it is....and for what I paid for it....I'd say that it was a bargain. |

My wife "borrowed" my S&W 469 (my summer carry) so to get it back I bought her one. I paid 399.99 NIB with 2 12 round magazines at Bobs gun shop in Norfolk in 1984 for mine, I got hers at a guns show at Dulles for 375.00 and 4 12 round magazines last year. Not a bad deal TBH..

The best pistol I've purchased, my Nighthawk Talon 5" 1911 .45 ACP. The best deal, my Stoeger Cougar 8000 F 9mm.

My HKs are the guns that I have held on to through all the buying and selling, and the only ones I have no regrets over purchasing. Possibly not the best values, but definitely the best purchases I've made.

Best dollar spent on a pistol? Ruger Mark II .22/.45. It's an accurate .22lr handgun that doesn't hiccup.
Best value on self-defense caliber pistol? Ruger P97. It simply works well. I fired it for the first time in 2 years last week. First shot was a direct hit in the 1" bullseye at 7 yards, firing DA. Rest of magazine were all in a sub-2.5" group. For me, that is good with a .45. Best feeling I got from a pistol I bought: Browning Hi Power Mark III. Long story, but I REALLY enjoy this pistol. Best pistol I bought and then changed EVERYTHING on: DGFM Sistema Modelo 1927 [argentine 1911a1]. I have the gun set up with the original frame, safety plunger tube and msh. I've changed everything else and fitted a beavertail. It is reliable and accurate, and just feels GOOD in the hand. Best building experience: Caspian frame I purchased and finished into a Caspian Frame/Slide racegun. It is the most precise handgun I have and a pure joy to shoot. It is especially rewarding to know I did all most all of the work [Caspian fit frame to rail and local 'smith fit MSH and drilled ejector] and it has a crisp 3lb 9oz trigger [I had it at a crisp 3lb 2oz trigger, but modified it as I wanted the ability to shoot NRA matches some day in the future]. I've left the GP100 out as it is the semi-auto forum.

Recently a S&W 4553.Was a police trade in from buds,and while I'm not a dao fan,it's obscenely accurate.After a little polishing,and having the night sights replaced,it has become my daily ccw.For $249 it was a deal i just couldn't pass up.

I know I am a fan boy but I would have to say my Coonan. While it is expensive it is very fun to shoot. I would say it is my favorite range gun and is occasionally a carry gun.

92fs. Not a single failure of any kind in over 2000 rounds. All kinds of ammo through it. Not sure what you think makes a pistol a "best" but that makes it a best for me. I am not even sure if I should waste any more money on 9mms due to how "best" this one has been. I just think any other 9mm will seem like a waste of money. But that is just my biased opinion. My brother has a BE all steel 9mm and its a great shooter as well, but just does not have the full package. Wont shoot Tula Aluminum ammo, and the 92 has no problems at all.
May try a PX4 compact. not sure yet. Last edited by power5; October 22, 2012 at 09:18 PM. |

I have two. Both are absolute tack drivers. One would be my Sig P229 Elite Dark 40 S&W and the Walther PPQ 9mm. These two guns keep my other 16 pistols in the safe.

I have to say my Ruger SR9c was a great buy. I paid $350 for it new (SS) and got a box of Critical Defense ammo to boot. I've been thoroughly impressed with this pistol since day one.

Best buy was my 22/45 mk2, lots of shooting/training for a very low price. I would also say my Ruger P97, durable, reliable, and accurate.
