Shipping ammo to California
Hi all,
I just ordered a case of ammo from www.targetsportsusa.com. But I might not be at home at delivery time. Some adult will be at home. Do Fedex require me to sign or any adult can do it? When I buy ammo in store, I need to fingerprint. So I don't know what is the ammo shipping policy. |

You mean Fedex takes finger print? But do I have to be the person who take the finger print?

If a signature is required any adult signature will be fine.

Fingerprint? The only thing they ask in this part of Virginia is for the money.

I've had bulk ammo shipped to me in CA. All I heard was "Honey- there's a very heavy spam can down in the entry way with your name on it". No problem.

Odd, I live in Calif. and there is no state law requiring a fingerprint for ammo shipped to me.
hoho_leung may live in a city or county that requires that but there is no state law mandating it. State law does not mandate a fingerprint for buying ammo. I usually go through "Midway" or "Cheaper Than Dirt". But then I also maintain a mailbox for anything I don't want delivered to my front door when I am not there. Some ammo shippers require a signature from an adult before the package will be left. Which is, in many cases, a good idea. You can also have a trusted neighbor sign for it. It's also possible for the shipper to hold the item for you, notify you of when it arrives and you go get it from them. That does require a signature. tipoc |

I had 500 rounds of .38 special mailed to me last year and all they did was ask my name, no signing of anything? It's a sure bet if I wasn't home at the time they would have just left it on the front porch like always.
I live in SoCal if that makes a difference???

CA State law certainly does not require a fingerprint for ammo deliveries to the home, nor does it even require an adult signature - for many shippers, that's an extra-cost service you can request.
Some cities - Sacramento and Los Angeles, for immediate examples - do require identification, logging and fingerprint when you buy ammunition at a retailer in those cities, but that requirement does not apply to mail/internet orders. |
